Mozilla Thunderbird E-Mail Client
Anybody know anything about this. Just had a notice about this pop up when I launched FireFox. Wondering if it's any good and might be better than the Mail app?

I tried it at the same time I tried FF. It didn't seem to me to offer anything that made it worth changing. What problems do you have with Mail?James Steele wrote:Anybody know anything about this. None at all really, just curious. I used to enjoy using Outlook Express back in the System 9 days and am open to the possibility that someone might build a better email mousetrap.bayswater wrote:I tried it at the same time I tried FF. Re: Mozilla Thunderbird E-Mail Client
I looked at Thunderbird awhile back, but where Firefox seemed to offer some clear advantages over other web browsers, I never felt the Thunderbird was any better than any of the other main email clients, so I didn't make the switch.

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird E-Mail Client
I tried it a few years back, and it's still sitting on my desktop. I had no intention of switching to it as an email client as it clearly isn't as advanced as Apple Mail, but I do like its calendering tool, and would like it even more if it could sync up with Yahoo Groups.
A friend at work told me a few months ago that a big push was being made to overhaul Thunderbird and make it a Killer App, starting from the ground up with a rewrite. I'll believe it when I see it, but should probably look at the latest version anyway.
I'm more interested in it for Windows than Mac though, as I am increasingly annoyed with Outlook at work, and also see the possibility of better syncing home and work computers if I had a common email client on both.
I'm not sure that's really possible though, as the last I checked, this didn't seem to be a goal of Thunderbird vs. a uniform cross-platform GUI experience.

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird E-Mail Client
I recently tried it on Windows and implementing it with Gmail/IMAP was worse than Apple Mail, as I recall.

I didn't know AppleMail had a version for Windows!
Or are you comparing apples and lemons?

Re: Mozilla Thunderbird E-Mail Client
I'd kind of be lost with out the integration between Mac Mail and and Calendar. One click add events saves annoying cut/paste stuff. Also adding new contacts is a breeze.
