MIDI Express XT problems

Hi! I bought a second-hand MIDI Express XT [USB version] recently. The factory presets work OK but when I launch clockworks the routing map panel is blank. I also have an MTP-AV [parallel version] and the routing map for that one comes up OK. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

I've used the XT way back when it was new and the hottest thing, I only use MidiOx for mapping so mush easier so many functions.

MIDI-OX? That's software only which would be OK for soft synths and stuff but not alot of use for hardware. Looks like a nifty little program.

How do you do that? Is it a case where the XT functions as a direct 8X8 MIDI port [1-to-1, 2-to-2, etc...] and the routing is done by MIDI-OX or is MIDI-OX able to access and configure the routing inside the XT? If it's the former, I can see how that would be useful in a studio situation but not much use in a live gigging environment where it would be used as a standalone piece of kit without being connected to an external computer.

I am very interested in the solution to this - having recently purchased a MTPAV(U) and finding the same problem with Clockworks

In MIDI-Ox under Option/MIDI Devices, it will show you all of the devices it detects both 5 pin DIN and usb/MIDI. Here you can select them and even rename the ports. Once selected it comes up with a connection screen that default to selecting everything, right-click to disconnect all the drag the mouse between inputs to outputs to set up you connection matrix. You can even connect single input devices to multiple out puts. I've connected my MIDI guitar too two different tone generators and let my DAW Application select the voices.

Hoki doki, I think I've got the drift of that. It always takes a while for things to sink in with me One question: Once you've set up a MIDI patchbay configuration using MIDI-OX, will the XT remember it once it's disconnected from the computer? {IE: in standalone mode for gigging?)

hehehe... I see some RTFM smilies to my right. I wish I had a manual for the XT, but I don't. Is it possible to get a copy in pdf or html format?

No. It seems the only way to get the manual is to buy it from MOTU: even that can be hard (I still have a couple of weeks to wait for mine).

Hello rAC! Yes, I've not only had good luck but found the correct solution. I put in a ticket at the MOTU tech support section and waited a few days. They got back to me and said that I needed to upgrade the ROM chips (there's 2 of them inside the MIDI Express XT) and then everything will work. And it does!
By the sound it you have the same problem and you can buy the upgrade ROM chips from their website. I'm in the UK and got mine from their UK distributor, Music Track.
