Batterie adventures

Post by supersonic »

Hello Everyone,

I've just had a strange thing happen to my macbook pro 17", previous model.

First the battery (already replaced by apple after the original one bloated) didn't take the heat season well and ended up by bloating and now depletes itself in about two minutes. SO that's that. And here come the strange part. I realized, while trying to work with the battery removed, that all my project in DP took a hug hit and that the macbook pro could cope all of a sudden. Then I put the battery back and all was back to normal. Go figure. The battery recharges in 1 minute (if that was actually possible that would be cool :) and makes it possible to go back to work. I ordered a compatible replacement battery (the only available at the local store) but it doesn't charge. It will deplete alright though without the charger plugged in. While the battery may be faulty it still doesn't explain where the CPU hit come from when anyone of them isn't present...

Is there a CPU setting under your System Preferences Energy Saver options? I don't know about your model, but this is an option on some Mac laptops.

Take a look at this article and see if resetting the SMC helps.

I reset the SMC already. To no avail. While I can understand that a replacement battery may be faulty I'm at a loss as to why the sudden change in the CPU hit. All my settings are set to max with no spin down, no system sleep etc. The settings concern either Mains powered or Battery powered mode. There is no no-battery-mains-power mode. Will keep on looking. Meanwhile it would be interesting to see if this is also the case with other macbooks... so if you do happen to own one and have a DP project handy I'd be curious to know how it behaves with and without the battery.
