Motu 828 Firewire vs Mac G5 1.6 OS 10.3

Hi there folks,
I've recently purchased a motu 828 firewire and have been trying to install it into my Mac G5, 1.6, (OS 10.3), to no avail. I run Logic pro7 and have been told by motu technicians that the problem is with the device. Basically, at the end of the installation process, when I look in motu firewie console all that comes up is a general tab and options to switch on some pedal or other. I've tried going into system profile and it seems that the computer sees the motu but the motu isn't responding. Has anyone out there experienced the same problem?, if so any solutions?
