Best way to import non DP files?

Post by Festerplink »

I have imported files from Logic and Protools in OMF format and its hit or miss. I also realize this topic has been covered here before- but I could not find the thread, so I apologize for the repeat thread.

What is the current preferred way to import audio files from Pro Tools into DP 7.12?
Should stereo files be interleaved?

Thanks forum for any help

Apparently not. I don't. Can't speak for others.

Have you tried AAF format? How about other OMF formats? What results are you getting?

I've found the best method is to export the track as individual .wav files and make sure they all start at the same point.

That's exactly what I ask my PT clients to please do.
All files start at 0:00:00 so that they line right up in DP.
I believe PT defaults to non-interleaved (might be wrong) so a stereo piano part, for instance, requires 2 DP mono tracks to accomodate the .L and the .R.

How about broadcast wave format - doesn't that have metadata or some such that tells where/when a file/wave starts?

Yes, unless there's multiple punch ins in a guitar track, for instance. If they send multiple soundbites, then I have no way of knowing which is the correct one. So I like 'em all to start at zero...consolidated, I believe, is the PT terminology.

EDIT: Also, my templates are all set to 0:00:00. If the other studio's files start at, say, 0:05:00 or whatever, then all the imported files would be at 5 minutes (or more or less) into my sequence template. I know I could move them all equally and assign a User Time Stamp to them all, it just seems simpler if the other house does a little work that I don't have to!
