Program/Plugin for vocal effects and/or distorions
Hi:
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for software of plugins that created vocal effects or voice distortions. I have heard some effects in rap songs and also in death metal, and I am trying to recreate certian effects. I'm sure I can play around with traditional effects, but was wondering if anyone knew of any other programs/plugins that would accomplish the same thing.
I was particularly interested in an effect that allowed me to create a kind of realtime vocal that sounded like slow motion.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Chaz

You can use DP's own guitar effects (Custom 59 amp, Live Room G,
Tube Wailer, RXT Distortion, etc.) to distort/ overdrive vocals.
Just place the effects on an insert for your vocal track and
experiment.
To create the "slow motion" vocal, what you're referring to, I
believe, is a vocal that has been pitch shifted way down. You
can do that as well with DP - highlight any portion of a vocaltrack,
and use "Spectral Effects" to re-tune the pitch of the vocal down
an octave or more. Or you can do it even more easily by selecting
the audio, then using "Transpose" (Command Key+9) and shifting the
audio down. It will create a lot of artifacts but pitch shifting
vocals that far down always does anyway.

A friend of mine swears by this: http://www.audioease.com/Pages/Speakerp ... phone.html but I've never used it. It may or may not be exactly what you're looking for. If you're mainly after distortion, I agree with David try out whatever guitar effects you have handy including hardware pedals and guitar-rack software like Guitar Rig etc. Do you have a (real, not virtual!) guitar amp that can be overdriven? You'd basically "Reamp" your tracks through that and back into DP. If it were me, I would use my modular synth wavefolders and overdrive the filters for these kinds of sounds and I know other guys that use bit-crusher type modules for this stuff too. There are lots of distortion qualities and it's somewhat genre-dependent as to the types of distortion used. Also a combination of filters and distortion might get you what you're looking for, like try severely band-pass filtering (or EQ'ing) a track and then running through a DP virtual guitar pedal, for example. There are some cool filter plug-ins out there but I can't suggest any as I use analog for that stuff.Chazperx wrote:Hi:

You can get great vocal fx using sooperlooper, get crazy half speed, fast speed, reverse fx, etc.
http://sonosaurus.com/sooperlooper/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I often play around with it when looking for "out of the box" type stuff, then print the fx I like to an audio track.....

For the filtered distorted trendy sound... speakerphone is hard to beat. There's also Ozone Trash. How about bit crushing too?
