Re: PDF Manual
I rarely pick up a book and read it these days.
At my age, my eyesight isn't as good and I fall asleep halfway through the second page of a book.
ADD, laziness, and poor vision makes me wish MOTU would come up with a manual one could read on the computer.
Maybe they could create one that blows up computers that haven't paid for DP.
Or...
An internet manual that requires an iLock, authorization, or some way that it can't be copied.
I have the manual for DP6 and when I stop seeing complaints about DP7 I'll consider upgrading but
I have one G4 Mac running 10.3.9 in the Studio/Garage and the other running 4.11 on an iMac G5 in the house.
Until I have the money to get a new Intell Mac I'll work with what I have.
For instance, I see a message on the bottom of my DP windows saying 'mix mode off.'
Now I have to pull the manual off the shelf and look for 'mix mode.'
Nothing makes me sleepier than physical manuals, zzzzzzz.....

Then forget about upgrading. You'll never see a day where there are no complaints about a DAW.blazingrythm wrote:...and when I stop seeing complaints about DP7 I'll consider upgrading...

To each his own, but seriously I doubt you'll ever stop seeing complaints. That's not meant to say there is anything wrong with DP7, rather, it's that a few complainers always pop up in every forum, no matter what the product. But it seems to me that there are enough people out there who use DP and are happy with it, otherwise it wouldn't be at version 7.blazingrythm wrote:I have the manual for DP6 and when I stop seeing complaints about DP7 I'll consider upgrading

Re: PDF Manual
You have to admit it though... there are quite a bit of people up in arms about issues in 7 that I never really heard about in 5. IMHO, think 5 was one of the less complained about versions ever.

Re: PDF Manual
OTOH there's more features so there's more to go wrong. 7.12 had been very good for. At least as good as 5.13. I'm just sayin'

Re: PDF Manual
Then apparently you somehow missed the DP 6 craziness. DP 7 is a walk in the park compared to the DP 6.0 period.newrigel wrote:You have to admit it though... there are quite a bit of people up in arms about issues in 7 that I never really heard about in 5. Frankly, I don't let the complaints bother me too much because I know that there's not that much criticism that isn't the result of either user error, corrupted system, bad RAM and a whole host of other issues that are often specific to that user's setup. When seeking answers here, they won't often volunteer that they didn't install off a legit install disc, or tell you about some other bizarre software they have installed on their machine.
It goes back to my original point-- that if running this board has taught me ANYTHING-- it's that people will ALWAYS complain. Unfortunately, due somewhat to necessity, I've had to just tune most of it out.

Re: PDF Manual
Add to that the fact that people don't generally post that something is working great. They post when something doesn't work. This leads people to believe things are worse than they really are.

Funny, when I asked the same question, I was lambasted, and had the post locked so that no other replies could be attached. I guess you have more juice, being in the industry and all. I'm just small potatoes. But yeah, pretty much every other DAW has a freely downloadable PDF on their respective websites. I know Logic does.I don't think Apple seems to be concerned about it leading to piracy.judyhyman wrote:I know the concept of a PDF manual for DP is a long running joke. But there is a need for this.
I've been using DP since 2.5 (am on 7.12) and have paid for it and for every upgrade, bought MOTU converters, MOTU MIDI-interfaces ... the works. It's all paid for and legal.
I'm about to go on a 2-month bus tour with my mobile studio and wish I didn't have to carry this humongous manual. But I do consult it regularly. I long for a PDF version for when I'm traveling.
BTW: Nice article in EM.....
Cheers,
T

Well, I hope you feel better for striking a blow at the injustice that is this board! Good going. I'm sorry... Here... if it will ease your wounds, I'll lock this thread too.tonester wrote:Funny, when I asked the same question, I was lambasted, and had the post locked so that no other replies could be attached. My apologies for the imperfection that is MOTUnation. Here's an idea. Go here:
http://www.phpbb.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Download the software. Start your own board. Run it as best you can and enjoy getting criticized for not running it as perfectly as one should. Glad you still get something out of this place though. You're welcome.
