Can't import OMF files into DP 7.11

Post by cornellb »

For some reason I cannot import OMF files (created with Pro Tools) into DP 7.11 - when I open the OMF files, everything works fine and DP converts all the audio files into a folder, and it saves the DP project file with the same OMF file name. DP then tries to open the file but it fails and quits, giving me a "Digital Performer quit unexpectedly" message with a Problem Report.

However, DP 7.1 opens the OMF files without any problems...

Does anybody else have this problem?

Yes, this was a problem for me and my client yesterday.
The exact same problem: quit after opening DP. DP opens up, showing some files and then suddenly quits.
Tried it out even in 7.1 and 7.02.. results are the same :(

Hey Guys me too. Started in 5 and 6 not working. Tried saving an OMF in DP and opening it back in, same thing created folders, crashed. Tried saving an OMF in PT same thing. Funny though when I first got DP 7 it opened one fine then after that same thing!

If you have DP 6.02 still installed, try opening the OMF's in that as I had good success with opening them in 6.02.

I wish they would get the OMF feature sorted once and for all.

All OMFs are not equal. Can't go thru them all now but try a different type and be sure data is imbedded.

I am able to successfully open OMF v.2 in DP 7.1.2 made from both Final Cut and Logic 9. I must say I have always problems opening OMF's made from ProTools though. I have had better luck with AAF's in that department.

Hmmm... ok, I've loaded DP7.01 on one of my iMacs and my MacBook Pro and they both open the OMF files. It seems like it's only my Mac Pro that is struggling with the OMF conversion. :|

Can anybody read/understand crash logs?

Dude, you have to tone down your signature. Really.
I mean, what's your point????? Ok. You've had problems with DP. Just solve them and stop your cheap propaganda, will you?

James is not going to let you use this forum to spread your negative signature/"ad" in every post you make.
Your third post and you already have that stupid signature???

If we moderators would gather all the useless and griping posts, we could fill out a new forum just with that

DP is certainly not perfect. But it has been good enough to allow most users of this forum to make a living with it. So do not take things out of context!
You are trying to make it sound as if DP was a useless toy and a piece of crap, which obviously it is not.

Other experienced users are NOT having the problem you mention, so it's not that it just doesn't work. They also offered a few solutions, BTW.

I think you're the person that may be going overboard and taking it out of context but in the end JAMES WILL DECIDE NOT YOU!!. He obviously wants a answer to his problem and he should be allowed to express his opinion. As far as this issue goes I agree that the OMF protocol in DP doesn't work as smoothly as compared to logic. I would suggest that be sure to pay close attention to the sample rate and bit rate at which the OMF file was created. Knowing this info a head of time will save you some headache. Make sure that your hardware interface matches that sample rate and bit rate before you open this file otherwise it might not open. Also you want to pay attention to whether or not the files are in stereo, mono, interleaved etc. You may disagree with me on that point but that has been my experience. I wish that DP would remember the sample and bit rate from project to project and force the interface to reset itself upon loading that project.

It appears he joined a long time ago. But either way, I will decide... and what I've decided is to edit Cornellb's signature. There's no need for that sort of bellicose attitude here. If you want help, people will try to help you, but please don't bring such a major attitude here. Expressing one's opinion is one thing... taking a flame gun to the place is another.

Thanks Ronjams for the good info on OMF importing:
Be sure to pay close attention to the sample rate and bit rate at which the OMF file was created. Knowing this info a head of time will save you some headache. Make sure that your hardware interface matches that sample rate and bit rate before you open this file otherwise it might not open. Also you want to pay attention to whether or not the files are in stereo, mono, interleaved etc.
And thanks James for resolving the other matter efficiently.
