2 keygroups, same sample but different region of sample play

Post by zappo »

Hi all,
Sorry, I don't use Mach5 (v2.02) often but..there should be a way to do this..right ?

I'm a sound designer and I'm making a preset with car by's. Some of these sfx files have 3 car by's in the same WAV file.
When I assign the SAME file to 3 different keygroups on different keys (say I want C3 carby1, D3 carby2, E3 carby 3) it MIRRORS start/end points on all 3 instead of giving me the option to make them all different although they come from the same sound file.

The only workaround I've come up with is to copy the file twice and rename it, then import it as basically 3 different samples.

Shouldn't I be able to have different keygroup settings for the same audio file ??

Thanks,
Benny.

Yes and no.

The sample start/end markers shown in MachFive's waveform editor are a sample-based setting, i.e. you can't use the same sample in multiple keygroups and set those markers independently in each keygroup.

But if you use the Sample Start slider (along the right side of the window), the setting is saved in the preset, i.e. you *can* use the same sample in multiple keygroups and set the value independently for each keygroup. The downside to this slider is that there isn't a visual indicator for it -- you'll need to fine-tune the slider position by trial & error.
"I don't see any method at all, sir."
