Autosave question

Post by sestopiano »

Is it normal that the file xxx.autosave is 587 kb and the original file xxx is 13,6 mb?

Hmm. Does seem a little odd, doesn't it? I just checked some of my files and indeed the autosave file is significantly smaller than the original. Could have something to do with undo's. Dunno.

Undo history is not retained with 'Save A Copy' (which auto save does). 'Save As' does save the undo history.

And not only that, my autosaves don't retain memory of which windows are supposed to be open (including the counter). So the first thing you have to do when opening an autosave file is to employ a window set to bring the document back to your default layout.

There may be other things missing from the autosave, as well. One time I discovered that some VIs were empty!!

Advice--check your VIs and the project before deciding to continue working from an opened autosave. Make sure it is all there, especially if the reason you are using it is because DP crashed DURING an autosave, which happened to me a few times in 7.1 before I upgraded to 7.12. If DP crashes during an autosave, there is a reasonably good chance that the autosave might be corrupt. And indeed... one time I couldn't even open it.
