Problem with 8pre (firewire)

Post by sinnihr »

Hello all,

I have an interface 8pre. I have a concern about the firewire ports: they are no longer operational but the rest (input preamps) function, the inputs receive the signal. I am not sure exactly where is the problem, yet the interface remains the mode converter and the computer displays a message that says no MOTU interface is connected. I tried reinstalling several times while the equipment, but nothing happens. Is there a solution to this problem?

In the case where the ports are really dead, I plan to acquire a 896 MKIII. I'd like to know if the following connection work: Computer -> 896 (from IEEE 1394) ---> 8pre (connected by optical wiring in / out with the interface 896). if it works entries are they recognized by Cubase 4 as such (and used independently assignable slopes). To summarize: do we have 16 entries?

thanks for your replies in advance!

Mika

I believe it will work fine, as long as that's the only problem with the 8pre. You could always take you 8pre to a store and test whether it will.

If you plug the 8pre into the 896mk3 via adat the added 8 inputs (8pre inputs) will show in cuemix as well as cubase. This works the same for any 8 channel adat device that you would plug into any motu mk2 or mk3 soundcard with adat inputs.

Make sure the problem is the 8pre and not the computer's FW port.
