Mac Sees PCI 424 but doesn't sync with 2408 mk1 [RESOLVED]

Post by lhkmusic »

Hi ,

this is my first post after searching for anyone with a similar problem.

Anyway been using a Motu 2408 since 1998 with the occasional problem, mostly the mac not seeing the card but I haven't had any problems in a long time. Now after having to shut my mac down by holding the power button when it booted the 2408 lights carried on blinking on the front panel. I checked systems profiler and the Mac is seeing the card and driver installed as seen here -Image
but when I open Motu PCI Audio Setup all I see is this -

Don't know if the card or interface is shot. I have tried all the usual things, repaired permissions/zapped pram/applejack and also tried the card in all the available PCI slots and different Audio Wire and still no cigar!

Anybody seen or had a similar problem as this is starting to play with my head!

Thanks in advance,

Liam

System is -

Early 2005 Dual 2.0 G5
4GB RAM, PCI 424
Motu 2408 Mk1
Mac OS 10.5.8

Quick update -

Still not working but things have got a little stranger, now the mac sees the card in the PCI slot, but doesn't see any driver installed.

Just un-installed the card, uninstalled the motu software, repaired permissions and rebooted. installed the motu drivers once again and shutdown. Then I installed the PCI card once again and still the same thing, the mac doesn't see a driver installed!?

if I try to launch Motu PCI Console I get an error message saying no PCI 424 installed !?

I'm totally lost now.

Maybe the driver version you're installing isn't compatible with the OS version you're using. The latest PCI-424 driver is compatible with Mac OS X v10.5.8, so you should probably download the newest installer from motu.com.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.

It could very well be a bad card. I've had that happen to me before.

Thats the way I'm thinking at the moment, but I have no way to check whether it's the card or the interface.

Have you checked with MOTU technical support? If all else fails, you can buy another card from MOTU for I believe $295. Give them a call and get some direction from them.

That's my next port of call, going to have one more blast at re-installation and if that fails I'm going to get onto Motu.

Thanks for your replies.

Update -

The card was indeed faulty, Music Track (Motu Distro in the UK) replaced the card for £70.

Great! As I mentioned, I've had that happen to me before as well. You should now add to the title of this post "RESOLVED" so that we all know.
