Hi all,
I'd be interested in your thoughts about this demo piece: http://www.charlottemcmillan.com/Serenesetting.html
It's from a score I wrote for a film, and was used to score a very serene scene. But I'm not sure if it's demo-worthy in terms of both composition and mixing... It's seems a little weak on both counts. Perhaps it's just a bit too bland and doesn't demonstrate anything notable.
So, let me know your thoughts.
Thanks.
"Serene" music -- too bland?

It would help to view the scene that you wrote this music for. If the scene was slow in developing and serene
then your music reflects that. Mission accomplished…
Your desire for outside comments is laudable , however, the only 2 people needing to be satisfied is
you and the director.

TF, I agree with Shweats. If it matches what's happenening on the screen, then cool. As far as the mix is concerned, my gut is telling me it's not all in the same space. Could be a simple matter of consistency of reverb. Dunno, just thinking out loud.

Re: "Serene" music -- too bland?
Thanks, Schweats and Phil O. The cue was satisfactory for the film project, but my question is whether it's interesting enough to stand alone as a demo... Thanks, Phil O., for the comment about the mix. I'll look into reworking the mix.
Re: "Serene" music -- too bland?
I guess it all depends on what the client is looking for. When you say, "stand alone," if you mean it's the only piece you're presenting as a demo of your work I'd say no. If it's the only piece representing that particular mood (and there are some other samples for other moods) then I'd say yes.tunefool wrote:...but my question is whether it's interesting enough to stand alone as a demo...
