B.Hornsby sound? /James, not sure where to place topic

Post by Pedwin »

Hi,

this topic might belong to another section but I do not know where it belongs.
As I understood some of you are using Synthogie's Ivory Grand Pianos. Still climbing my learning curve I am trying to get a grip on the piano sound of Bruce Hornby's Harbour Light. Does anyone have an idea how to come as close as possible to that warm sound? My first impression is that choosing between Steinway D, Bosendorfer 290 and Yamaha C7 Grand Pianos, the Bosendorfer comes closest. Any idea's how to come a bit closer to my goal to get (at least the intro of  ) this song recorded?

Thanks in advance,
Kind regards,
pedwin

a) I will also try to find answers at other user forums, which does not mean that don't value the experience of the users here. Just gathering input. 8) 8)
b) James, if this post does not belong here, could you please relocate it to the correct forum? Sorry for the inconvenience. :!

Hornsby fanatic here. He played Baldwin pianos in those days. He currently plays Steinway B's and D's. Listen to "Heir Gordon" from his Halcyon Days record, that's my favorite piano sound from him (and it's a Steinway). A Bosendorfer is closest to a Baldwin, probably because of the hard attack. Maybe a combination of Bosen+Steinway will get you close? Probably just trial and error.

harbor lights is one of my favorite Hornsby tunes.
