I don't think that's the case. From what I gather they may have a problem with him charging directly for themes, but then I don't know. The only reason I could think they would care is that the popularity of these mods underscores a certain dissatisfaction with the stock GUI on the part of a good segment of the user base.
As an aside James, I would be happy to donate to you for hosting. I've learned a lot from this forum over the past several months, and appreciate your and the other moderator's efforts.
I've long since taken care of that, thanks to the good people at Sweetwater. They really have stepped up to the plate and helped to support this community and for that I'm not shy at all about suggesting that if you find this site useful, you should strongly consider giving them your business whenever possible.

What they need to know is that NO stock GUI is going to satisfy anyone now that we've been exposed to these. The mods that I have in my dock are fantastic, and I use the one that fits my mood of the moment. (usually Oxidized, but sometimes Gold Complete, Jade, or Night) This has really opened up a new dimension to working with DP. Looks so good, I want it open 24/7!

MOTU cannot recreate that feeling with a single stock GUI. The genie's out of the bottle. Pandora's box has been opened. The farmers have seen Paris. Things have changed now, and you can't recork this.

I feel the next round of these I'm coming up with are getting to a level I had really only dreamed about when i first started. It may be time to make certain versions that I really feel are on another level available only to those that donate. If nothing happens on the MOTU front I have to start making moves make sure I can keep doing this into the future. I don't think the need or validity for this work is in the proving stages anymore.

Value comes from perception, and it may be up to me to be smarter about it. Of course, those that already have donated will have automatic access. :)

Onward!
Hey Andy.
First of all I would like to answer to your comment and try to be very well educated and polite. As English is not my mother language , please forgive me before hand if I say something that might sound rude or similar, hope I could tell you this in my own language.
Ok. I really don't get why I have the feeling that you and James are so upset at me. Let me start saying that I never tried to make any "savvy move" at all. When I took that decision it was just me thinking on my work with some of my mods that I thought were just for people that really wanted them. It was never , and I'm saying the truth , about money. On the other hand I never thought of this whole moding stuff like a real job (please don't take me wrong), I tried to do my best on every mod but didn't have real time to dedicate to them as a real job. I know just by counting the humungous amount of mods that you made that you were taking this...(I'm not going to say more seriously than me but) with a lot more of dedication and commitment, and that I applaud .
The thing is that I never thought about this like a competition between us (Like if we wrere two marketing companies or something like that :)) and for being even more honest I never even care about getting MOTU's attention by doing this. I just wanted to help users that didn't like the original GUI...(same than you, but again, never had those aspirations).
Actually I remember when you first PM me saying that we might get a data base of our users and also ask for donations together, and I know that my answer by that time was no... overall 'cause I was so,so busy that I couldn't even think about doing that by that time... I know that now I did it ... but honestly I wasn't thinking about the money.
Actually I must say that I haven't had as many as visitors as you on your site... 10.000 visitors are a lot!!! Congrats o that... I just had about 4.500 visitors and more than 15.000 downloads, but guess what, basically donors are not even 2% of them and most of donors just donated 1$us. Hmmm... I really don't mind but it makes me think that somehow I did all that work for loads of people that not even said thanks... So in that way I get your point and understand your frustration.

At the beginning of my post I said that I have the feeling that James was also kind of upset at me, maybe is just a feeling, maybe he thought that asking for donations to get some of my mods (VINTAGE) wasn't a good idea, he almost never posted on my Mod's thread and when he did I had the feeling that was always criticizing or complaining about something. Here is another post that made me feel the same:

mrbil wrote:Has anyone had success with these visual changes to DP using the Creative software, and used them on a Mac G5 system, using DP 7.1. It would be nice to have options in color as sitting in front of a computer monitor forever, this cold dim the BRIGHT.
Just making sure before download them and installing them to see if any one has had problems.
Not sure what you're talking about, but I use a skin from AMPGUIMODS.COM (my favorite is "Sharp") and I have no problem whatsoever.
As the title of this post was: "3rd Party software Dark Mode and others" for me this guy mrbil was asking about my mods but James just told him to go and get yours...
Again . please James don't get me wrong, I'm just saying I've got the feeling, maybe is just me as a very sensitive person that I am. And please I wouldn't want either to start an argument about this , just try to understand my point of view.

But , now , when I read this:
amplidood wrote:It's over guys. MOTU's not going to call. The fact I could get donations like I did is still amazing to me. All you that donated are amazing. But it's not going to ever be enough for me to continue with this anymore. MOTU made it very clear that charging outright for these things would bring the hammer down on me, so I'm just going to have to bow out. The demands of life and time are becoming far too great and I barely have the energy to deal with what has to be done.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement during this process. Hopefully I can grow the right side of my brain to help support the starving left side better.
I have to say that I really understand Andy , even if I wasn't expecting a phone call from Motu , I was at least expecting a little tap on my shoulder (like ... - Thanks! ) But I see it won't happen.
When I realized that MOTU gave that Supplementary folder info I was exited... I thought that they gave that info maybe directly to Andy or James, but I found it out in a different way...No problem there. All I can say to Motu now is that here, where I live, I went to record to several studios that uses Digital Performer 7 ( their owners are very happy with it BTW) but from 5 studios I know that use DP7 4 of them are using mods. Actually on Motu's site when they talked about Beyoncé's stuff , there were a picture of Kwiz and McGoo using DP6 with a mod mixed between iP & Amp plus some modifications they made on their own.
Anyway the good thing I get from this are all the nice comments from all the users that liked my mods... but of course.. as I said, I never took such dedication and commitment that Andy took . Not 'cause I didn't wanted...basically I couldn't (No real time, very busy working and the most important... new born baby :)

Now that I read this post at Andy's thread I must say that I decided to express my solidarity and announce that no more Mods will come by my side (even if we can convince Andy to keep working on them and I really think he should). But I can't offer more mods as i want to focus on my family and my career.
BUT, to all donors , I must say that if there comes an update for DP7.1 I will definitely update the mods and send an email with a download link. I owe that to you guys.

Andy, I think you should reconsider your decision, you made a huge effort on those Mods and on top of that they look great. But whatever will be your final decision I think that at least I have to say THANKS!!!!!!!!! for your work.

iPerformer... Nobody's upset at you. I think you must have misunderstood. Also, if I recommended going to Andy's site to someone it was not meant as a slight to you. I just may not have thought of it at the time.

Yeah James, How do I donate to your forum? I look at it it probably everyday. Some of my friends are surprised that most of the time I can PM someone or submit a post and get responses ( usually very quickly) from very knowledgable and sometimes well known individuals for help on a problem or a comment.

It's crazy!! I love it.

Thanks. I don't take donations any more and haven't for a long time. Currently, as I mentioned elsewhere, the good folks at Sweetwater contacted me and wanted to help support this community, hence the banner ad you see at the top of each page. I recommend that people consider supporting them by giving them your business when possible, since they help support this site.

Me too. I've been their customer since even before I knew about MOTUNation. Actually, when I gave them my criteria for a new DAW, they recommended DP hands down.
The things I've bought elsewhere (like through local Mexican dealers) have given me various degrees of nightmares and made me regret not buying at SW.

Makes me feel better James. We have been dealing with Sweetwater since Chuck and Brenda were operating out of their basement. With all the clients we have sent them thru the years, we surely paid for a few square feet of the great new facility they built! So glad they are suporting the list. I have personally trained myself to ignore banners. Sorry!

Since Dp 7.11 is out, I've sent a "no obligation" PayPal donation to Amplidude to encourage him to check his mods for compatibility, and if necessary, to bring them up to speed. I haven't tried them yet. If they work fine, then the donation is just more thanks for these mods, which have really enhanced my enjoyment of working in DP.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Incidentally, Andy, if any effort IS required to make them work, consider my donation a vote for updating:

Oxidized
Gold Complete
Jade
Night

These are the four mods that I use with any regularity. Oxidized is my primary mod.

I'm hoping that the current mods will continue to work for several more versions without need for further alteration, and that this donation will find you in good spirits or help to get you there.
