7.1 rockin hard
I recently upgraded to DP7 from DP6.02, I worked with 7.02 for a couple of days and today I jumped to 7.1 and it has been solid rock so far, I'm mixing a +40 session, a bunch of plugs, automation, and I am very happy, plus along with the DP upgrading, I upgraded my computer from a G5 single to a new MacPro quad and maaaaaaan!!! I'm loving life so much now
I haven't got a single crash or a single beach ball, nothing, it is awesome
I haven't messed with VI's and programing yet...
so far so great!!!

Hey Tonio... those things scream don't they for audio! It's funny that all the rant and whining about the performance hit are just strait up BS! So, is there a HUGE difference in performance or just good in your opinion?Tonio Ruiz wrote:I upgraded my computer from a G5 single to a new MacPro quad and maaaaaaan!!! I'm loving life so much now

Re: 7.1 rockin hard
Newrigel, you've gotta quit bullying people who have problems with their systems. I think you're a fine musician and I love your energy, but it's so much more effective when you use it positively, and not to belittle people who have a problem.
I'm one of the lucky ones who rarely has problems, but I've had my share over the years, and until you figure out what is causing it, a little problem can drive you crazy! Everyone's system is different. DP HAS been known to have some pretty serious bugs, but to their credit, MOTU eventually squashes all of them, or nearly so; one can't say with 100% certainty that any software is bug free. In fact, in Douglas Hofstadter's book Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid the author shows pretty positive proof that for any given system, there is some condition that will bring it down. It's impossible to be without error in a computer system. Thankfully, OSX is built to handle most of them. (Just check your logs; you'll see them.)
I do think that some people come to the forum a little too forcefully with high expectations that we are going to do something about their problems or else DP, MOTU, and all of us can just go to... well... you know. Once someone has established that they are going to be real f-kheads about it, then by all means chomp into them. Take a bite out of them as they run screaming out the back door. But please... be nice to those folks who are really here for some help. Let's teach people to troubleshoot, not shoot them for having trouble!
You're very knowledgeable and helpful when you want to be, and as I said earlier, your energy is quite effective when used positively. I urge you to go the positive route first.
Respectfully,
Shooshie

I've heard you rip into a few people myself... again, I'm not putting anything down... I'm bringing it UP! We need to stay positive because the ones who are out there creating these hypothesis aren't doing us Mac users a bit of good... and me being an owner I have the right to give my 2 cents just like anyone else does... @ least I'm not putting down the mans tools... I'm rejoicing in that he's happy and being productive and to me, that's better than me coming down on him telling him his new Mac Pro has heat issues when listening to a song in iTunes.... please!Shooshie wrote:Newrigel, you've gotta quit bullying people who have problems with their systems. Hey Tonio... put some SSD's in there and get ready for launch mode he he! I'm really reluctant to sell this one to update to the new MP's coming... this box has been the most rock solid box I've ever owned and I'd hate to loose that.

Re: 7.1 rockin hard
Hi Guys,
Finally have my Macpro.
I'm ready to make the jump from my Dual 2.0GHZ G5 PPC to the big machine.
But looking at all the things i have to do...brbrbbr...a bit scared because 7.1 is running oke on the old G5.
Shall i just upgrade and use the migration assistant or build everything clean from scratch up.
Tonio/ other users could you shed some light how you guys did it.

Re: 7.1 rockin hard
I would start fresh. There's nothing keeping you from hooking up a FW cable and just copying over your files. There's extensions from your G5 that you may need to upgrade to work on the Intel. Now if you were migrating from an intel machine I wouldn't be as critical of what's migrating over but still, you have a brand new machine and you'll have to fine tune everything regardless so having piece of mind is what's most important. At least you'll know what's actually causing the issues as you go. I
take my time with new installs and check everything out afterwards to make sure everything works.
