Clicking Noise, Clock Issue? 8pre

Post by darwady2 »

Hey all,

I've been trying to do some recordings with my two 8pres, which are both hooked up via Firewire to my machine. I'm using Cubase 4. I'm getting terrible clicking noises in my monitors and headphones, and I'm pretty sure it's a clock issue. Has anyone else ever had this issue? I'm trying very hard to solve it or find someone who has, but to no avail.

It doesn't seem like I can uploaded an audio sample on this forum, but if you'd like me to email it to you (should you know something about what I'm talking about), I do have a sample. This happened when the clock source was set to 8pre #1. I've gotten one 8pre replaced for this issue already (as well as 2 others replaced for different issues), but it's still going on. Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks, Dan

Lightpipe one 8pre into the other and clock accordingly.

Definitely thought about doing that - running one in converter mode and the other in interface mode. The problem is that I lose the ability to control the main and headphone outs of the second unit in Cubase, because it will only recognize the outs of one unit. This is a sacrifice I'd be willing to make, but if possible, I wanted to run them both in interface mode (which is actually a setup I did for a couple of years without issues, why it decided to stop working now is beyond me).

Anyone else ever have this issue? Do you know if it could be my firewire card or something? I looked at the interrupts in Windows x64 and it seems like all is fine, and again, I'm running a completely clean audio machine with the same setup I used for years. Very strange.

Ah well.. if nothing else, I can at least do the converter thing.

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

You will need a digital clock. The ART Syncgen is inexpensive and works well.
