Effect Error, no Stylus RMX

Post by 31flies »

After searching the forums it appears I cannot run Ethno on my new iMac. However, I pray this is not the case for Stylus RMX.

I load the discs fine. "Installation...was successful." Both discs, same thing. Downloaded all upgrades from Spectrasonics, also with success. But no option to choose it from my Add Instruments menu.

I figured someone would tell me to repair disc permissions so I did that and I got this:

Permissions differ on "usr/share/derby", should be drwxr-x, they are Irwxr-xr-x.
Repaired "usr/share/derby".
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreS...as been modified and will not be repaired.

I have no idea what any of this means. Please help.

Thanks you!

wouldn't worry too much about repairs disk permissions statements!

First thing to do would be to get DP to scan again for plug-ins at start-up. I'm not in front of DP at the mo, but do a search - there's a preference file you need to bin, and DP will rescan.

FWIW, I can't think of any reason why sylus RMX shouldn't work, so breathe easily, we'll get it sorted :P

I can't think of any reason either, but it's true. I am stumped. I've tried restarting several times. It just refuses to acknowledge it.

Anything?

Hi,
Doodles is correct. Here is how you do it.

Go: main HD/users/your computer name/library/preferences/digital performer

Take the 'Audio Unit Info Cache' file and bin it.

Now when DP starts up it will re-scan your audio units and register them again.
RMX should now show up in your instruments

Good luck.

What version of Stylus? iMac? I'm guessing Snow Leopard? Hence why you can't run Ethno 1. You did make sure that it's enabled in the Audio Plug-in Prefs in DP I imagine? You installed the Audio Units version. Can you actually see the plug in the components folder? What version does it say if you Get Info on it?

Oh... amplifying on what Keith said... which version of DP? You can manually re-scan the AU in DP's Audio Plug-In prefs without deleting the cache... but it couldn't hurt either.

Thanks for the help guys.

Mac OS X 10.6.2
DP 5.1
RMX 1.5.1

So, I deleted the cache and came back in, no RMX (Mach 5 keeps showing up like a trouper, though.)

I took screen shots of the RMX install and they say: "Stylus RMX Disc 2 Installation complete!" and same for disc 1. But now I wonder if I did it. When I type RMX or Stylus into the search I get: Stylus_RMX_Data_Installer_1_7 (127MB) and the update shows up, as well.

I repeated the install process AGAIN with the same success! and no RMX.

What now?

Well not sure what to tell you but both apps are not current. I'd update your DP to 5.13 at least, but I'm pretty sure that's not even supported by Snow Leopard.

What version of Stylus again? You should download a more current version and install that first. Although in my case I stopped upgrading Stylus RMX with 1.8.2d. Subsequent versions will block DP transport keyboard commands when it is the frontmost window.

My advice is to download and run the DP 5.13 updater and also bring your Stylus RMX at least as current as 1.8.2d.

DP 5.13 is unsupported on SL anyway so who knows why anything is going wrong. I'd consider making the move to DP 7.1 as well.

Updated Stylus to 1.9.3

DP still doesn't like it, though Garageband does, so I ordered the DP upgrade to 7.0 (and threw in the MX4, too.)

So while I wait for my shipment...DP can add RMX as an instrument but when I click it in the track menu I get a very long white menu with: Properties-- render quality, and a ton of parameters, long list. Anyway to make that work?

Thanks for the advice.

Hello again,
I would say your biggest problem is that DP 5.1 or 5.13 will not work with Snow Leopard.
What I would do is remove 5.1 (or 5.13) and wait for DP 7

Once you have installed 7 and updated to 7.1 I'm sure RMX will work properly. :D

No. 5.13 isn't compatible with Snow Leopard. Period.

FYI, I hope you'll be happy with out keyboard transport control while Stylus is the frontmost window. :( Until there's a fix released in DP, that's what's going to happen with versions later than the one I mentioned.
