DP 7.1 and possible bug-add plugin to 5th insert and crash

Post by cccppprrr »

Here's one that I found right off the bat. Maybe this is unique to me somehow so if anyone wants to repeat that would be great. Opened up a project made in 7.01 and was just doing some early checking on 7.1 (which I had just installed) to see if I found anything weird...so I add a few audio plugins to an aux track and as soon as I try and load one into the 5th (and only the 5th) insert I get the pinwheel of death and the program just hangs. I also tried it on a regular audio track (not an aux) and the same problem. Repeated numerous times and does not seem to matter what plug in. Tried the built in MOTU ones as well as some waves and IK multimedia-same result. Went back to version 7.01 and that version does not have the problem. It's possible it's got something to do with a legacy file, meaning one made in an earlier version, but I always build on older files for new ones so this is a big bug for me. Anyone able to repeat?

I just tried this on my MBP with 10 inserts, no problem. I don't have any AUs, but you mentioned that you had the symptom when using MAS on inserts as well.

I would toss out the DP Preferences file (User Library> Preferences> Digital Performer>...) to see if that helps.

Some users have discouraged having more than one version of DP installed on the same User directory. Not sure if this is applicable in this case.. ?

Thanks for the help. Trashing preferences did not change anything. And I know it's common advice, but it's never (ever) solved a problem I've had with DP. Anyone else willing to try this?

In your Mixing Board, tell us what the setting is for "number of effects inserts," or whatever it is they call that. Maybe if you start with a particular number of inserts, and THEN add plugins until you get to five, maybe that will cause the crash. I think mine is set for 5. When I reach 5, DP7.1 adds another blank insert, and another, and another as each fills. No crashes, but what if my inserts were set to, say, 1 by default? Or 4? Maybe the crash would occur then. So, please tell us your insert defaults.

Which five plugins were being used on the inserts at the time? I'm just wondering if one of those plugins might not be causing the problem.

The other thing which has had me wondering is what happens on a *new* project when adding plugins to inserts? There has always been one issue or another with old projects being opened in new versions of DP.
