increase fader to +12dB without using trim plug-in?

I am using DP6. Is there any way to increase fader to +12dB without using trim plug-in? I found you can only get +6dB with the fader moved to the highest position.

Any idea?

Also, the fact that you need that much gain in a fader COULD be an indication that there are other underlying problems (bad tracking, or everything else is too hot, etc.).

Why don't you want to use the Trim plug anyway?

You could also process the file with that plug off line if you don't want to see it in your mixer. You would obtain the same results.

Or if appropriate, you could lower everything else by -6dB and just raise that track +6dB.
How hot are the rest of the tracks?

Bring the other tracks down maybe? Or use a comp/limiter when you track. I don't use anything but the preamp when I track because I don't want the broadband noise creeping into my vox tracks and I want to preserve the performances natural dynamics. You only have so much until you get the bus hot in a DAW (any DAW) so if it's distortion you want... go ahead and slam it.

Thanks! I asked this, because I kind remembered recent ProTools update has this option. Since I only need to boost few dBs more than the fader's +6dB at few short movements, I will just use the trim plug-in. Originally I didn't want to use trim, because I was lazy to set one more automation.

Though it must not be a popular request, I still hope MOTU will add 12dB option in the future.

Soundbite gain, Soundbite gain, Soundbite gain is your solution.
Could be done in 2 ways.
1) Select the soundbites and go to AUDIO/soundbite gain and adjust it. This will even show the increase/decrease in the waveforms.
2) or go to the left (SE window) and change "soundbites" to "Bite gain" used as "volume" automation.

If all tracks are uniformly rather soft, you could simply mix everything at lower overall level and then bump the master fader up via trim plug as much as you like as the last stage. That would be simpler than trying to bump up every track by itself. The printed single tracks are already what they are at this point, and for a mix in a 32bit FP universe, you don't have to worry about maximizing levels until the end.

Yep, that might be the better solution, to apply a "Change Gain" post-mastering, to bring it up to a good level for whatever context it will be used in. I do this all the time as I produce almost everything with maximum headroom these days and some tracks do end up a bit shy by the end. But you have to be careful about your thresholds.

highlight all the tracks with low level, then go to.... Audio/Audio plugins/Trim
then choose trim and set the DB appropriately, then hit apply,
this will burn the trim plugin into the soundbite, and helps reduce
wasted CPU power running multiple trim plugins.
