Randomly reassigned bundles in 7.02/7.1

Post by JZilla »

Hi everyone. I've been running into another weird problem that's pretty irritating. I'm running DP 7.02 on a Quad 2.66 MacPro with 16 gigs of RAM in Snow Leopard, and using a large template with a bunch of VIs, primarily PLAY, Omnisphere, Absynth, and a few instances of Kontakt through Vienna Ensemble Pro. The problem is happening in both 7.02 and 7.1, but I'm mainly using 7.02 due to some other instability issues.

So here's the problem: as I'm working on a large sequence, my audio bundle assignments are being re-routed, seemingly randomly, in a couple of ways. The most common thing that's happening is that for a complete instance of a VI (most commonly Kontakt, but it's happened in Omni a couple of times), the left channel is being lost entirely, and the right channel is bumped over to the left output. So if my normal setup is this...

Instrument Output ...... Bundle Assignment
Kontakt 1-2 ........................ Kontakt 1-2
Kontakt 3-4 ........................ Kontakt 3-4
Kontakt 5-6 ........................ Kontakt 5-6

...etc., for up to eight parts, it's being reassigned to this...

Instrument Output ...... Bundle Assignment
Kontakt 1-2 ........................ Kontakt 1 (right channel only)
Kontakt 3-4 ........................ Kontakt 3 (right channel only)
Kontakt 5-6 ........................ Kontakt 5 (right channel only)

...with the left channel not assigned at all. I'm able to manually reassign them, which works for a while, but it then happens again for no apparent reason. I can't figure out what's happening when it does reassign (not doing any specific task, running heavy audio at that section, doing file activity outside of DP, praising Cthulu), and sometimes the manual reassign fixes things for hours, sometimes for a minute or two.

The second (probably related) problem is that from time to time if I reload a sequence, either from startup or changing my audio buffer, all the bundles will come up as assigned to Bidule. I don't have Bidule loaded in this template at all, and in fact have disabled it in the loaded plug-ins. I can fix it by doing the manual reassign, but with a large template it's pretty obnoxious.

The third (probably related) problem is another once in a while one. Occasionally the outputs will reassign to non-consecutive outputs on an instrument, ie. Kontakt 3-5 instead of 3-4, followed by the rest of the outputs being out of sequence (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, etc). When opening up the Bundles window, the missing output is put down at the end of the list of available ones, so again it can be reassigned, but it's just a little annoying.

These all seem to be somehow related, and are real momentum killers, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Wow, I was just searching for resolutions to this issue and came across your post. Looks like no one responded, and I'm afraid I don't have an answer either. But I see this problem and other similar bundles-related problems all the time, and I suspect it is related to some crashes I experience fairly regularly. I have seen this problem since at least version 6.

I have found to get the bundles to appear correctly, I need to delete the VI bundles, disable VI's, re-enable VI's, and recreate and assign the bundles. It does take a few minutes.

Hopefully someone else can chime in with some ideas for a solution.

Hello,

although I didn't get completely rid of the problem, a MAJOR help was setting the option "run plugins always in realtime" in the plugin-options window under preference- DP defaults to "pre-gen when possible", but I honestly had much more "bundle dropouts" with that enabled.

Hope this helps a bit :)

This has been discussed at length recently.
One user has found success by leaving an 'empty' plugin instantiated and inside the bundles window:

I have not had this problem myself, but I'll try this first if I start getting random VI bundle assignments.

Thanks for the replies, I hadn't seen that other thread, but I'll give some of those things a try and see if it helps.

I've posted on this before and had no answers that worked. It started for me when I began creating multiple auxes to handle multiple audio inputs from VE Pro.

I created a new template that had just the VE Pro (slave machine) VIs, with no VIs instantiated on the main machine in DP, and that seemed to fix the problem. But as soon as I added a VI in DP, especially anything PLAY, the problem was back (when the project is saved and relaunched).

The workaround of course, is to pull up the bundles each time the song is launched and fix them manually. If a left or right from a stereo bundle is missing, most times it's at the end of the bundles window, and you just drag it over there.. not very elegant, to be sure.
