Which Neumann

I have the chance to buy a TLM 193 or a U87ai. Anyone have both of these and care to comment on them?

The U87 isn't necessarily the best mic for every application, but I can honestly say that I've never heard one sound bad. Never. The 193 is a great mic too, but I haven't found them to be quite as flexible as the 87.

My $.02...go with the 87.

Personally, I like the sound of the U87 better for just about everything. My advice: try them both and make the decision based on which sounds best to you.

The only "advantage" of the TLM series is higher SPL handling...not that the U87 is too shabby in that area.

I want it for vocals and whatever else I can use it for.
I have a UA 6176 and a Hamptone HJFP2.

U87 ai all the way, we have two any they are amazing! I tried a few other high-end mics and kept going back to the U87.

If you do not have a large condenser mic yet then the U87 is the one to have.

u87

omni is an under used greatly transparent method of recording

you can do that with an 87

enjoy!
