Is anyone using DP7 with an MBox 2 Pro?
I'm in a position where I have to learn to use ProTools for some mobile recording projects - the producer I'm working with only uses ProTools - and am thinking of getting the MBox 2 Pro to use with ProTools LE 8 and my MacBook Pro (2008 15" 2.5 GHz with FW800 and FW400). I'll also be running DP7.1 on this system for my own use when I'm away from my home set-up, which is based around an 828 Mk3. I'll probably also use the MBox when playing keyboards live. (I've been using B4 and other VIs from within DP and just using the Mac audio output into a DI, but can no longer live with the latency).
Are there any issues with this combination? Will I be able to record onto the internal hard drive, as I can with DP and the 828, or will I need an external drive? I have a couple of Lacie D4 FW800 drives but are there any recommendations for small portable FW externals? I know the MBox 2 Pro would need to use the FW400 port. Could I use the FW800 port for an external drive?
Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
Phil

I might get slammed here but I think you can only use that hardware with PT's if I'm not mistaken... they started that after Avid took over. But someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Works fine for me (DP 5.13). However, I use a dedicated internal audio drive. I don't know if that makes a difference, as far as compatibility is concerned. The only drawback is that you can't use CueMix for zero latency. When I track in DP, I use my UltraLite so I can use CueMix. The only time I use my MBox 2 Pro with DP is if I just got done working in Pro Tools and I'm too lazy to switch interfaces.
Newrigel, I think you can use most of Digi/Avid's interfaces with other software. What you can't do is use a third-party interface with Pro Tools (except for some M-Audio stuff).

Well you certainly won't get slammed, but I'm certain you can use an MBox 2 (pro or
otherwise) with any software you want.
It would be a very bad decision on Avid's part if that became Avid's policy.

I use DP 7.1 with an Mbox 2pro nearly every day. Works like a charm.
