Re: can garage band be a vi for dp?
Why on Earth would you want it to be a VI? If it is to run Apple Loops or Garage Band VI's - I believe you can drop Apple Loops directly into the DP 7.1 interface now, just like Rex files. Alternately you can load Apple Loops and REX files into UVI Workstation, which is a free download, and it works directly inside DP as a virtual instrument.

You can access GB from DP as per the instructions in the Tips and Tricks thread, and in a MOTU tech note, but not exactly as a VI.

The whole MIDI thing is kind of new for me so it's hard to ask what I need to ask. I have D P 4.61 and would like to hear what's in my recordings without blindly spending big bucks and getting wrong stuff. I like some of the sounds in g b. That's probably all i need. I appreciate any help I can get. Wish I could take a class but forums usually work pretty good I'm also loving the notation features and learning as fast as I can.

I think what he might be trying to do is to use the sampled instruments from GB in DP as pseudo-AU's, but because the Apple instruments are not true AU's, they require a workaround to operate in DP.
AKAIK, there is not a way to that other than using the method bayswater lists above as I don't know that using UVIworkstation or MachFive would solve that scenario. I don't know a lot about GB as I don't use it, but are the VI's actually exs-24 instruments? If so, then MachFive is a potential solution. If not, then bayswater's method is the way to go it seems.

Re: can garage band be a vi for dp?
As far as I can tell, the sounds in the GB library are not EXS instruments. If you import a GB into Logic, it uses EXS to play the sound, but it loads a GB sound, even though there is usually a very similar stock EXS sound.billf wrote: I don't know a lot about GB as I don't use it, but are the VI's actually exs-24 instruments? I've tried the method in the tips and tricks thread, but my system doesn't have the horsepower to make it work well. I found it easier to work in Logic, substituting the original GB sounds with better sounds, then freezing the tracks and importing the audio tracks to DP.

Why not just use GB? Do you really need DP? Have you been using it long?zoot wrote:The whole MIDI thing is kind of new for me so it's hard to ask what I need to ask. Do what you need to do in GB and export the audio file... then import into DP and do what you have to do.... that's what I'd do.
