Hi,
Can anyone confirm that the monitor level in my 828mk3 drives a digitally controlled analog output trim (kinda like the digitally controlled analog input trim)?
If it simply trims the digital signal sent to the DACs, then it's really not too great as a monitor controller..

I think you've answered your own question with that statement. If the master volume control affected the signal pre-DAC, then sound quality would get worse as the master volume decreases. The signal-to-noise ratio would suffer considerably. If you set the master volume to -36 dB, do the analog outputs sound very noisy?Graham B wrote:If it simply trims the digital signal sent to the DACs, then it's really not too great as a monitor controller..

Are we assuming that Graham has a 828?1nput0utput wrote:I think you've answered your own question with that statement. I don't understand your question. Look at the thread title.bayswater wrote:Are we assuming that Graham has a 828?1nput0utput wrote:I think you've answered your own question with that statement. He can only do the test you describe if he has an 828. The 828 master works fine for me, although the actual knob is awkward to use, especially if you have headphones plugged in directly below it.1nput0utput wrote:I don't understand your question. Related question: when you use the master slider in cuemix, it controls the master output level on the 828. So is that control affecting the digital output level prior to the DAC, or is it always at zero?
