What is the Best Version of DP5 for OS X 10.6.2
Hello,
I finally upgraded my computer to an intel, many years after I really needed too, however, I'm still running DP5 and really can't justify upgrading to 7 at the moment.
I did the install today and upgraded to the last updated version of DP, 5.13, but none of the plugins that come with performer loaded. Literally, nothing but the Apple and AU units, none of the "good" ones like the masterworks plugins.
I've also been crashing frequently, and for what seems like no apparent reason.
DP5 without the updates won't even load, so I'm wondering what would be the best version of DP to update. And if anyone can tell me why the plugins won't install or a work around for this, that would be much appreciated. When I search the library, the plugins folder is empty, so it's as if they didn't even load from the disk, although I did see there names splash across the screen when the files were copying.
Many thanks, in advance.
Keith

DP7.
Sorry. DP5 was released pre-SL. I haven't heard any success stories.

I was afraid of that. I guess i'll be doing some research here to find out more about 7. Any idea of 6 will work, as I might be able to get a copy of that until I can invest in upgrading to 7. Thanks for the feedback.
Would still love to hear from anyone else with some other options out there, although I'm guessing this is most likely a unanimous consensus.

From wikidot--
http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Indeed-- if you have gone as far as Snow Leopard, there's no reason NOT to go for a later version of DP.
7.02 has gotten a lot of praise on Motunation, but 7.1 is also doing well on this end.
This is a good site, fwiw:[DP 5.13 in Snow Leopard] will crash if you attempt to load an unsupported AU/VST (remove from system iluminação) also, may have issues with files saved before OS upgrade.

The upgrade price from DP 5.x to DP 7.x is the same as the upgrade price from DP 5.x to DP 6.x: $195. At this point it almost doesn't make sense to upgrade to DP 6.x where those who are concerned about one problem or another have either stayed with 5.13 or have taken the leap to at least 7.02 or later.kealle wrote:I was afraid of that. I do plan on going to DP7 at some point, once I recover from the financial burden of just having invested in a new machine.
Thanks for the link; that actually answered a question about Sibelius for me as well.
regards,
Keith

Yeah... I think we've covered that here in another topic where someone was complaining that DP 5 wasn't working well in Snow Leopard. Not to be flip, but "Duh!" As pointed out DP 5.x was released much earlier than Snow Leopard. Expecting it to work well is unwise and unrealistic.

But then again... do you HAVE to use SL? Does SL have something that Leo doesn't? I have a partition with SL and DP 7.02 on it and I've been putting it through it's paces but I do my real work in Leo and 5.13... I see no difference in using one or the other besides a few MOTU plugs (I don't use them anyway) and the real time fades etc. but when your working and there's things gone from 5.13 that you mouse over to get and they are gone, you think to yourself, why did MOTU change that? You'll find yourself having to break old habits.

All of the "late 2009" Macs require 10.6.1 or later.newrigel wrote:But then again... do you HAVE to use SL?

DP 5.13 and OS 10.6.2 works great for me. However, I'm using an early 2008 Mac Pro.
