DP as frontend of PT
So my partner and I combined studios and we now have a hybrid DP6/PT8 studio.
He bought a Digi 003 and I bought an 8-core Mac Pro.
I figured that's fair, right?
After a ton of issues revolving around the 003 playing well with DP6, I still don't really have it figured out, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I can't for the life of me get PT8 to do what I need MIDI-wise, so when I need to, I use my DP6 and it's a crap-shoot as to whether or not DP6 will see the 003 and play well.
Hopefully someone here can shed some light on the situation...I've read that you can use DP as a front-end for PT. Is this true? Can the two play well together? Would I benefit from upgrading to DP7? How does one do it???
Also, my partner swears that "If it can be done in DP, it definitely can be done in PT". I'm just not buying that because when I try to open one of my big MIDI files in PT and its brought to it's knees in crash-ville.
Oh yeah, and when did the tech support at MOTU go down the toilet?

Re: DP as frontend of PT
DP can use the 003 for audio I/O via Core Audio, just the same as any other audio hardware which supplies a Core Audio driver.
To use DP's DAE mode — which is what I suspect you mean by "use DP as a front-end for PT" — you need to have Digi HD hardware (not LE hardware like the 003).

That's some pretty disapointing news.
If you knew just how finicky the 003 is when it comes to serving up anything other than PT, you'd understand my dilemna.
Anyone out there have an experience-based solution?

Do you have anything else on the same firewire buss/chain as the 003? If yes, that could be your problem. I have to chain the 003 and the 828mkII and if the 003 is behind the 828, then problems with the connection. If in front of the 828, it usually works fine.

Nope. 003 is all alone on the FireWire. My 828 is sitting in the closet laughing it's a@$ off

OK. So I figured out what the problem was and wanted to post the solution for anyone else who may have the same issue.
The only way the Digi 003 will 100% work every time with DP6 is if you open up Core Audio on it's first own and open up Hardware Setup (HW Setup...) and make sure that the sample rate is the same as you're set at in DP (mine's at 44.1). If they're not matched, all heck breaks loose on that mama-jama. For some reason, Core Audio defaults to 48khz.
