Is DP5.13 even supposed to work with Snow Leopard? I know you said you didn't want to go into it, but DP7.02 is working so well for so many, it would seem this could answer your prayers for salvation from crashville.

My platform is nothing like yours, but I was never happy with DP5.13. Moving to (the much maligned) DP6.02 was a real relief for me, and 7.02 has been at least as good.

Tripi... I can almost guarantee that this is a Snow Leopard issue with DP5.13. I was having the same exact problem on my Mac Pro (Snow Leopard) with DP5.13 but on my laptop which did not have Snow Leopard was working just fine with 5.13. It was ridiculous. Like, every 3rd attempt to export would crash. I had projects where I had to export like 200+ tracks in total and every 3rd export I had to restart the damn project. It was horrible as my laptop's logic board fried and I could only use the Mac Pro until my laptop got back. Ohhh man... the nightmares.

Anyway, I upgraded to DP7 on Mac Pro and all is good. Laptop is back and that's my DP5.13 machine. I know this probably doesn't exactly "help" you but trust me -- you were not alone in this issue.

Thanks. I've been having a sinking feeling about this. Although, it's weird that it didn't start as soon as I installed Snow Leopard. It really did just happen out of the blue about a month ago. I've had SL on my system for 6 months.

Yes, that is weird. Although it could be one of the subsequent updates. Can't be sure. All I know is that I know what you're going through and it sucks man.

Thought I would post an update here in case anyone digs up this thread for help in the future. I never actually cured this problem, but I have found a major cause of the crashes.

In Snow Leopard, there is a new file system named NFZ (or maybe NZF?). Anyways, this is how they save so much space over Leopard. One big issue with it though is a bug related to saving (or Save As) in a folder other than the one that tries to come up (usually the last saved place). The best bet is to Save As in the same folder as where the opened file originated. This is usually the case with the Save As command, but sometimes it isn't. If you export an audio file to a particular folder (which isn't the work folder), and then try to save as, it almost always causes a crash.

The biggest part of my problem was using a program called Default Folder X. It's a very useful utility that makes the save and open dialog boxes default to certain folders (either user specified or last visited options). The issue was that it always changed my folder first, and then I had to navigate back to my work folder (using the recent folders command in DFX). Snow Leopard hates this. As soon as I uninstalled it, and restarted, things began working much much better. Now... I forced a crash doing some high-speed saving and exporting over and over again. But, for the most part, things seem to work like they used to.

I hope this helps anyone else experiencing this issue with DP5.13 and Snow Leopard. Hopefully Apple will remedy this at some point.

Thanks for the update and the info on Default Folder. It's weird, but I had downloaded that very app and some other utilities a few weeks ago. I installed them, looked at them, and then realized that they just scared me. I uninstalled them immediately. Call it a 6th sense, but that probably spared me from the agony you've just been through. I have a rule about my DP system: keep it simple. Only tried-and-true utilities like QuicKeys get through my "keep it simple" filter. (I've been using QuicKeys since 1988)

I'd surely go nuts without Quickeys too. I just finished a large-scale detox of my operating system. It's amazing how many old, forgotten applications just end up taking up space and still keep some sort of agent running in the background. I think that everything is much better off now. Fortunately I'm busy with projects this month, so I didn't go off the deep end and re-install the OS. That would just be a nightmare.

While some proclaim success with 5.13 in Snow Leopard, member carrythebanner recently posted this reminder from MOTU:

http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technot ... w-leopard/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The following versions or later are required for Mac OS X v10.6 support:

Digital Performer 6.02

This means that MOTU is not *officially* supporting versions of DP up to and including 6.01 in 10.6.x. That doesn't mean that it doesn't work or won't work, but it does get into the territory marked "proceed with caution".

Then there's always the other option: dive right in to an usupported configuration and screen bloody murder on this board when it doesn't work. :D

Apparently that's very satisfying, for we do see a lot of it. Maybe I'll try that next time!

Silly question, but is DP5.13 actually Snow Leopard compatible? Just asking.

I'm using it right now. Aside from the subject of this topic (which i think has been resolved), it seems to be fine. As James pointed out though, MOTU doesn't officially support it.
