HEADPHONES for Mixing?
Some of us can't use speakers due to environmental problems.
I use a pair of AKG 240's but find vocals and midrange a bit strange in the mix. Anyone had success with a currently available product?
Any partial solutions for those of us who don't have a choice would help many?

Is that better than the Beyer DT 150's?

Hi,
i like the AKG 270. Sounds better than the 240, more detail... With some luck you can get the 270 for a good price ‘cause 271 is out now (or for one year) and some dealers still have the 270. Or try ebay.

Re: HEADPHONES for Mixing?
You should still mix wih speakers even if it's at low volume. Headphones are okay for maybe indept listhening, but to much of it won't give you the reality of the mix.

I agree. Headphones are cool for listening for digital noise, tape hiss, and noisy microphones, but for mixing, they're not going to be anywhere near as accurate as monitors.

If twenty people reply to this post, you'll probably get twenty different model numbers for headphones. So, I'll add to the hodgepodge.

There is something new out there I believe they are called Ultrasone or something like that. I am interested in these and wonder if anyone knows what I am talking about and would care to comment.

Do a search in www.gearslutz.com forums and you will find a bunch of info on Ultrasone.Originally posted by Jeroleen:

Re: HEADPHONES for Mixing?
Just two cents, funny timing, my Sony 7506's just went out last night (threw too much subbass at them I think), so I need a new set (I also have a couple of Sony's professional DJ headphones which are nice for soundbooth work but a little too beefy for mixing). Definitely going to get another 7506.
The Ultrasones sound great, but I would be wary of the s-technology. Though it might sound really cool and immersive, it's not even close to the sound you'll be getting with a standard stereo setup. In fact if it's as cool as some reviews say, you might end up being disapointed with the end result of all your work from then on out when played on a regular stereo.

Re: HEADPHONES for Mixing?
Yeah, as much as I liked the 7506's, I like the Grado's more. That doesn't mean they're better. I just personally like them.
I got a good laugh when I saw Mercenaryaudio.com say the following:
Ultrasone : Trust Your Ears Ultrasone headphones ain't your daddy's 7506 headphones. :p
