To Update (firmware) or Not To Update, That is the Question

I thought I'd throw this question out there, I'm not entirely sure where I stand:

Currently I have my 828 mk. III at the stock firmware that I purchased it with (can't recall but I think it's 1.04 maybe). I decided long ago not to update it because my Windows XP x86 system is rather stable. I haven't really had any issues at all in that environment, which has kept me a happy camper for a long time.

Recently I added a Windows 7 x64 partition to this machine. After a bit of tweaking and twiddling, it's mostly playing nice with me. I have a few occasional non-ASIO audio quirks, but I'm not really concerned with stuff like that (I can reboot the machine in those rare instances). However, I have had issues with input/recording using the ASIO drivers in this environment. Issues meaning stuttering and skipping. The problems seem to occur regardless of sample rate (I've tried a couple). I have examined many of the usual culprits, so far I'm not finding the issue and it's somewhat sporadic. The output side has worked pretty much perfectly, I can mix just fine in this environment.

So what I'm wondering is: should I keep my one in the hand and not mess with my environment that's working; or should I consider updating the firmware to the latest and greatest in anticipation of making Windows 7 work more properly? I don't want to break what's already a working environment only to find that it doesn't make any difference in regards to my Windows 7 problems. I'd ask the MOTU tech support but from prior experiences I don't have a lot of confidence in their knowledge of PC platform. Anyone here have experience with firmwares or a similar situation?
