Is there a standalone apple loops browser?
Check out this link:
http://www.karelia.com/imedia/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Is there anything like this for apple loops? Something that is external or a standalone program to just open up and be able to pull loops into other programs that support .caf?
Thanks.

Re: Is there a standalone apple loops browser?
.
What other programs do you have in mind? Like Logic or Garage Band?
I would look at Audio Finder, but I have no idea if it supports .caf. Is that kind of what you are looking for?

Or maybe UVI Workstation?

I'm pretty sure the latest version of UVI Workstation supports .CAF and it's FREE.

Re: Is there a standalone apple loops browser?
Sorry Im dumb, I actually copied and pasted that from "another forum" (logic pro help ONLY because i was asking about DP!) and FM, DP was the other app I was talking about there.
Audiofinder looks pretty sweet, that may be what I want. I don't really ever use loops, but there's so much stuff in there something is bound to be useful.
James, I recently heard something about UVI workstation, what's the lowdown? all I ever remember about it was that it was on motu extra discs that I sort of threw in the drawer. That actually may be the answer to some quick sample playback. Sometimes I just don't feel like opening a Reason rack for a couple of simple dick-around sounds.

Re: Is there a standalone apple loops browser?
It's a free download on their site and not only does it play Plug Sound and other UVI libraries, it will let you work with all the free Apple loops that come with GB and Logic. Newest version is 1.1.2 I think. It's very easy to drag and drop Apple loops into a track in DP's Track Overview using UVI Workstation.

UVI is a good solution for this. It's an underrated app.

Re: Is there a standalone apple loops browser?
Thanks goes to you James. I don't think I would have taken as good a look at it without your recommending it so frequently.
Outside of Motunation I've seen few mentions of it, which is really strange... meanwhile it's free!

Re: Is there a standalone apple loops browser?
UVIWorkstation (v1.1.2) doesn't handle CAF files without conversion or do I have something setup incorrectly? When I use the browser, it will not preview that file type which is what all the Apple Loops are these days. Older version of the loops were in AIF format which UVI previews correctly. Audiofinder handles CAF with no problem and DP has just added CAF support in 7.1 with full drag/drop/import functionality.

Re: Is there a standalone apple loops browser?
Hmmm... I apologize and stand corrected then. I thought they added CAF support in UVI Workstation with the latest version. I'll have to investigate then. Could you perhaps email me a small loop that is CAF format so I could investigate?NazRat wrote:UVIWorkstation (v1.1.2) doesn't handle CAF files without conversion or do I have something setup incorrectly? Re: Is there a standalone apple loops browser?
UVI Workstation has been handling .caf files for at least a year or two, hasn't it? I tested that a long time ago, and it handled them just fine. I guess it's possible that I grabbed an aif file, thinking it was a caf, but I'm pretty sure I tried a number of caf files, and they worked.
Maybe they've er... "upgraded."

Re: Is there a standalone apple loops browser?
It may be me or PPC or something, but I cannot get UVI (V1.1.2) to work with CAF files. When in the browser, with preview and autoplay on, I get silence as I move from file to file. I cannot drag a CAF file from the Finder to a slot. When I browse a folder of AIF files, it previews every one as I move through them. It handles the old style AIF Apple loops drag/drop with no problem. Works fine with WAV also. I will send a CAF file if you haven't gotten one already - PM me with the email.

Re: Is there a standalone apple loops browser?
Just noticed that my UVI Workstation is a version or three behind yours. I'm only on 1.0.15.
Apparently my earlier fears were justified. They've upgraded it so that it no longer handles .CAF files.

Seriously? That can't be can it??? Not good. I have version 1.1.2. Shooshie-- any chance you can put your current version in a safe place and see if it works in 1.1.2. I think we ought to contact UVI and ask them what the heck is going on if that's the case.Shooshie wrote:Just noticed that my UVI Workstation is a version or three behind yours. I'm only on 1.0.15.
