Help! (Detailed please).
Just copy the samples to a different location if you don't like where they ended up.

Once you've got the samples where you want to have them, you're almost set up. As soon as you run PLAY in standalone mode or within DP, you just navigate to them and PLAY will remember where they are. If it can't find them in future it will ask you to specify where they reside.

I store all my PLAY libraries in a folder on my samples drive called "Play Libraries". Leave the names of subfolders unchanged.

Got it working. But the sounds sound awful. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong. The guitars are buzzy and cheap sounding. The drums, not so good. I'm downloading the updates now to see if it makes a difference.
It sounded great on the demos, so it might be me.

When you listen to the sounds in isolation, I imagine that they could sound that way. But they actually do sound like those audio demos when combined together. I don't think there was any additional processing of the samples.

It would be nice if all of the instruments had more velocity layers and round robins for realism. They could certainly give this library a facelift.

Hopefully you read my post up above in regards to the Abbey Road/Native Instruments 60s Drums. That is where you are going to find the drum sounds you are looking for.

Even though some of these Fab Four drum kits aren't quite as "playable", they can sound really good upon playback. I've been using the hi-hats from a couple of the kits recently, and some of the toms are bang on. The Madonna Piano is the instrument that I dislike the most... although it sounds quite interesting in the audio demo.

I've been playing around with them and I agree with what you say about hearing them in isolation. They're getting better all the time. :)

I'm going to check into the Abby Road drums. If I'm correct, the Kontakt 4 player is what's needed and that's free? I'll check. I did here the demos. Sound very real.

Thanks for all the help.

I can safely say that the playback action in Kontakt (3.5) completely beats PLAY (especially with key-switching). Ironically, before my love affair with PLAY abruptly ended, I had considered snagging Fab Four, just because I wanted a better variety of electrics (the selection in MOR is shameful) and at least one high-end sampled acoustic with lead sounds. From the sound of it, I'm glad I didn't. I also never dug the ADT in MOR; it seemed you could yield better results by duping a guitar MIDI track and either humanizing/nudging one side or by simply not quantizing it, then sending the results to two different channels loading up a l/r mono patch of a stereo guitar instrument and panning the channels left and right. There's also a bit of confusion: if you load up a stereo guitar instrument, the instrument is technically already "doubled" (often, with two different sampled amps), then, there's the stereo controls that further manipulates the stereo field of the instrument, then, there's ADT, then, finally, the effects section, which sometimes includes a chorus or stereo delay.

In spite of whatever shortcomings the PLAY libraries may have, there are some really fantastic instruments mixed in there. It is a shame that many of those instruments are not more detailed, but what you do get can sound great if you make the effort to squeeze the juice out of them.

The guitars aren't very versatile and can't effectively serve as work-horse guitar VIs, but some of them can add a very nice vibe if used for flourishes. If you check out ethnic instruments in RA or SILK there are lots of articulations and expressibility. I really like alot of those instruments.

As for guitar, these days I am trying to get the most out of my real guitar and amp emulations. I am hoping that Abbey Road/Native Instruments next venture will be a Guitar Rig add-on that included bass and guitar amps recorded in Studio 2 with vintage Abbey Road mics. Then we'll be better able to create our own Fab Four guitar sounds!!

You know Mr Frodo, I was listening to She Loves You the other day and realized it's a great as anything they ever did. People say they grew and matured (which they did of course) but the genius and radical departure from what had gone before was all there in those early hits.

I agree, Dave. The raw talent-- the fortitude to hold together in a live performance (despite questionable audio to do so)-- the lack of electronic gimmicks. It never ceases to amaze me.

Yes-- "She Loves You" was a real turning point not only for the Beatles, but for song writing in general, for its "third party" voice-- "SHE loves YOU" as opposed to "and I love HER". That song matched or perhaps beat "I Want To Hold Your Hand" in its effectiveness. What a follow-up!!

"She Loves You" did SO much for all aspects of popular music-- not just for song-writing! It iconized their persona in the form of "yeah, yeah, yeah" which pretty much became cliché where Beatle identity and marketing was concerned at the time. It is also such a well constructed song that tells an immersive story in three verses.

Of course, what came afterwards was ground-breaking. I still think of "You're Gonna Lose That Girl" as the dramatic sequel to "She Loves You"-- still third person in lyrical concept. Another favorite along these lines is "And Your Bird Can Sing", which really tells more of the same story, considering "bird" is a 60's British term for a woman.

It may be hard for those who did not grow up listening to their music to appreciate their depth of originality. It takes a certain understanding of what else was going on (or not going on) at the time, and then to understand their own professed influences, be they from Motown, British skiffle, country, vaudeville, advant garde, or what-have-you.

For me, their body of work remains impressive and loaded with important musical lessons to be learned. The word "timeless" comes to mind.

With a body of work like that, "you know you should be glad".

Yes those unique traits are often sighted as the hallmarks of their early success. "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" was blaring from somewhere in the cartoons for decades after. Not enough is said I don't think of Lennon's lower harmony where you have the dominant voice not actually singing the tune (as in She Loves You.) Plenty has been said about their harmonic language which sounded simple but was very sophisticated for Rock.

You are naming all my very special favorites which are not coincidentally John Lennon compositions. So I will add "our" other favs such as Rain, No Reply and I Am The Walrus. Actually my all time favorite ballad is If I Fell. A modulating intro from what, a twenty year old Lennon? Again he is singing a lower harmony as if he's doing the main vocal. And the spine tingling bridge! The changes are so classic and indeed Classical with passages as good as any written in the thousand years prior.

Uh oh... you got me going on the Beatles!

Now, see? I'll put on the "Hard Day's Night" DVD just to hear that song. As a kid, I struggled to figure out the changes to that intro and was trying to digest the concept of a song having such an intro. Then I started to hear a lot of old jazz classics and connected the dots. A little Sinatra, a little Sarah Vaughn, a little Nat King Cole, and I got the picture for the first time in my young life. However--- that Lennon's intro not only modulated within itself but modulated TO the tune blew me away.

Many people said that Paul was the ballad guy, but Lennon could hold his own on slow tune-- from "If I Fell" right down to "Julia".
