Re: DP 7.1 is Available
I already LOVE the concept of the new Insert Settings Presets. What a great idea.
I've been doing this already with clippings, but that is hard to keep sorted. This new method is much more streamlined and actually encourages experimentation with inserts, and allows you to easily store favorite settings from all your projects and instantly audition them in a new project. I will be saving my favorite bass sounds and guitar sounds, etc., in all my projects so that I can easily access those presets configurations elsewhere. What's New in Digital Performer 7.1 wrote:INSERT SETTINGS PRESETS
Chains of inserts can be saved and recalled with the new Insert Settings menu found at the top of the Inserts section in the Mixing Board and Channel Strip. A variety of factory presets are included, and you can edit, save, and recall your own presets.

Yes, that's really cool. I'm getting very excited about what I'm seeing in DP these days.zed wrote:I already LOVE the concept of the new Insert Settings Presets. What a great idea.

There was a period, many years ago, when Digidesign didn't seem interested in fixing bugs, or improving the workflow at all. The program was really stagnant. Then suddenly there was this jump and features starting appearing that were actually useful and made you day more pleasant and productive instead of just being marketing tools.
I'm glad for things like built in synths and amp sims, in a "thanks for the tie" sort of way. I can always appreciate a nice tie, even if I'm not going to wear it much. But I really like seeing things like the inserts menu, merging the selection instead of just the soundbites, showing the amount of time selected, etc. These are the sort of things that make DP more fun to work with, and we're seeing a lot more of them lately. It makes you feel like they're actually using the program, but more importantly that they are interested in how other people would like to use the program.
Right clicking can't be far off now.

Does anyone think it's too snappy? I say we petition for an option to make the snappiness an option, so people who like slow and unsnappy can feel comfortable.

Wow. Thanks for alerting me to auto save. I thought you were joking at first because I couldn't find it... but there it is in the General > Document preferences.dave pine wrote:working great so far......ahh auto save, i'll need to break my habit of saving after everything i do......but that's still left over from ver5, haven't crashed 7 yet.

I have LONG wished for that feature without actually articulating that that was the feature I was wishing for.zed wrote:I already LOVE the concept of the new Insert Settings Presets. What a great idea.

Re: DP 7.1 is Available
And it is a smart auto save too. I love the implementation. You can determine how long between saves. The default of 2 minutes seems good, and it does not save when the project is playing, and the save time is ultra quick. Quicker than what I have been used to.bongo_x wrote:Auto save!

But better than that... you can either automatically save over the project you are currently working on, OR you can save a copy. And that's the good thing! It doesn't keep making new copies it just keeps updating the same auto-save project, so you get a save every 2 minutes to an emergency copy, but the actual project you are working on remains unsaved until you manually save it.
Therefore we get to work as we always have, with the advantage of a single backup file which is recent by as little as one minute. No need to actually use it unless you crash. Very nice.
