Nico - ditto. Win7 64-bit on Dell Studio, drivers for 828mkII seem to work okay until the pops and squeals start, then all goes silent. I've got a techlink open but support hasn't been very helpful.

Support are offensively pathetic!
Re: Windows 7 32/64 drivers released! Post your experiences.
Hi there,
I installed the new Windows 7 64bit drivers on a Dell XPS Laptop, and all of the problems that are mentioned I had.
When I playback a recording then at start I don't have any problems, but all of sudden the sound is gone , pops and a cracking sound is heard, and when I update the IEEE driver it's allright again. I don't have to close the recording software. It doesn't mather whether I choose the normal driver or the legacy driver. Also with the legacy driver I get the problem during playback.......
I dunno what to do, it's frustrating.
The IEEE 1394 is a RICOH OCHI, and I don't know if a firewire express card with TI chipset would be the solution.
Greetz,

Yea you need a TI Firewire card! The Ricoh ochi is the worst because you think it works BUt it really does not. Get a pci Express firewire card with only firewire ports on it and a Texas Instrument chip set. These Motu FW drivers are really good with windows 7. Actually the new drivers are the best drivers I have ever used. Keep in mind I have never owned a product from RME which I hear are amazing. It's a shame Motu does not support their drivers better but at least they are finally releasing quality.
BTW anyone getting blue screens on windows 7 may have some crazy problems going on. You may want to test your memory and make sure you don't have two virus programs installed. remember to turn off windows defender if you use a 3rd party virus program.. I would go with Microsoft's security essentials but make sure to un-install any previous virus progs. Search the net on how to un-install specific anti virus programs like norton, kaspersky etc.

MOTU 8Pre
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
ASUS P5q-em-DO motherboard
Hello All:
Okay, i have Windows7 Ultimate 64-bit system. When first installed the new drivers for my 8pre it had this loud ass horrible bass sound almost blew my monitors (not really, but it scared the hell outta me). I would get this noise everytime i tried to use a program that required the use of the MOTU device. It would stop as soon as i closed the program. And when i tried to open other programs or install new software i would get this cracking and popping noise.
I tried re-installing driver, flashed new firmware to 8pre, and tried the older drivers. Not working!!!
SOLUTION:
SO...after finding this forum I did what other people suggested which was to change the IEE 1394 driver to the legacy driver and everything worked fine!!!
I would suggest do that before you do anything else!!!

I only wish I could figure out the manufacturer of the macbook pro ieee 1394 card (i think it's all one unit along with the usb and fw800 slots) so I could install a legacy driver... Any thoughts? Apple don't list their drivers for windows for the firewire and can't find a manufacturer anywhere.

I'm a new user. Just purchased an Ultralite mk3 today for my new laptop (Asus G72GX). I was excited to see the MOTU website had the Windows 7 (64 bit) driver I was needing. Wow, I guess I should've spent a little bit more time in the forums before jumping in....ha.
Anyways, the first time I tried to load the driver I did NOT disable the UAC or 'run as administrator'. I got the same error 1721 message that Kazaamblam got. I then could not ever get a good removal or reinstall. I used CCleaner, etc. Manually removed reg keys, folders, etc. Nothing worked. Eventually, 'error 1721' went away and was replaced by 'error 1402'. After that, I decided to reimage/restore my laptop. Disabled UAC. Right clicked to 'run as administrator' and the driver install went without a hitch. I haven't pushed it yet as I'm still deciding on a 64 bit PC DAW to go with...but I did record a couple of tracks using Reaper and that did work.
Now if I can just figure out how to get this damn Firmware 1.15 to update...
Ultralite mk3 (firmware 1.0)
Win 7 Home Edition (64 bit)
Asus G72GX Notebook
Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 @ 2.53Ghz
6 GB Ram
*Ricoh 1394 OHCI ver 6.1.7600.16385 firewire driver

Re: Windows 7 32/64 drivers released! Post your experiences.
Well, courtesy of information from another forum I'll answer my own question:
Right click on the firewire host controller in Device Manager and choose Update driver Software.
Browse my computer for driver software
Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Select 1390 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)
Next
And it works, no noise....!
There was just one (slightly) worrying part of the driver install; a pop-up saying that MOTU Driver Install was Not Responding. But everything seems to be installed correctly and, as I say, I can now use my 8-Pre in Win 7.

Re: Windows 7 32/64 drivers released! Post your experiences.
Hello all,
The new win 7 drivers have been a complete torture for me. Let me describe my system. I hade a Yamaha 01X with a Yamaha I88X connected to the computer through MLAN over FireWire. All this was working fine with XP and has been for many years. However, I needed to run with more memory for a design program I run so I did a Complete win 7 64 install and Yamaha announced we will not support Mlan anymore and so all this equipment was useless. The only way to do it was to use a ADAT so I got a 828M2 off Ebay and plumed it in
So, The 01x/i88 is now connected to the computer through the 828 via ADAT.
I can even use the DAW on the 01X and control Sonar and record. I can also the 01x to mix live when I broadcast my blues show! SAM on the PC talks to the 828 which connects to the 01x then back through ADAT to the Recording encoder in the PC.
However, The win 7 drivers are giving me real problems since switching to the 828 I get random BSofD with APC_INDEX_MISMATCH. Doesn't happen with win running normally. I also get Service exception BSofD!.
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48
Locale ID: 2057
Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 1
BCP1: 0000000077A6FF2A
BCP2: 0000000000000000
BCP3: 000000000000FFFC
BCP4: FFFFF8800A6B8360
OS Version: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1
I have tried various combinations or Word clock and ASIO/WDM/RT audio and have removed the soundcard off my motherboard but turning off my 828 or pulling the F/W cable caused the BSofD. Also I have had problems running with the WDM drivers causing over a seconds latency in sonar even using the audio in from 828. It's got so bad now I was doing my Blues show and the system blue screened again so unreliable and it went down whilst I was recording into Sonar and lost the lot (despite Sonar saying we have auto recover)
Another big problem is the PC doesn't turn off after using the 828, No problems if it's not switched on.
Saying that I have seen in the Mlan forums and here to put the Legacy driver on so I have switched removed the driver and put the legacy FW driver on. we will see
One final comment, the support from MOTU is abysmal, it took 2 weeks to look at my ticket and after making one comment
"Have you tried disabling your computers Built In Soundcard? Do you have any PCI cards installed on this computer?"
That was it no further response. Anyone else getting this or is it just me because I bought my kit off ebay.
Oh well Best fighting trousers on!
G
UPDATE: The lagacy drivers are great they have cleared all my problems. Machine shuts down and the PC dosn't crash. So I wold recomend to ALL ditch the FW drivers and switch to the lagacy ones.
Also I have installed the new drivers everything working fine.

One Word: DEPRESSING!
828mk3 not only still clicks, whistles, Cracks , pops, drops out, etc... It's worse with my Windows 7 upgrade. If I could afford to use it as for target practice I would.

Same with mine! I think its the windows audio driver that
messes thing up. Asio in my DAWS works fine but in winamp+spotify
etc. the units hick ups, squeals and all sorts of things.
The funny thing is that in MAC OSX the units works perfect!!
I have tried TC electronic, Focusrite and now Motu FW cards.
They simply do not work with Windows without hickups and its
the windows audio drivers that messes up in my experience.

Hi, there,
I posted my experience with latest MOTU drivers, windows 7 32bit (RC1) on this topic http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... 8&start=60" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (there are also a lot of interesting posts on this topic too)
Here is the sum up if you don't want to read the whole post:
I had some crackling and popping issues under Ableton Live 8 and Sound Forge (did not try any other apps extensively). I was able to improve things, but it's still not perfect under Ableton Live.
- Upgrade to 3.7.37320 drivers really helps on general windows audio and overall stability it also improved crackling and poping issues a bit.
- Use OHCI host controller LEGACY driver improves crackling and popping issues (but does not fully get rid of it)
- Disabling visual effects (aero) can improves things in some apps (It fixes completely the issue in Sound Forge, but does nothing in Ableton Live), so you have to try.
- Third party drivers for IEE1394 were less efficient than OHCI Legacy one.
Have a nice day
