It helps to put your head in their space. Sometimes I'll ask a client to bring me some of their favorite music and I'll spend some time just listening and getting a feel for what they like. Then we'll talk about the vibe they're looking for and how it compares to what we've just listened to. (Yes, I end my sentences with prepositions. Oh no it's the grammar police!)

Anyway, I think that getting to know your client is just as important, if not more important, than some of the technical aspects. Just some food for thought.

Thank you Phil good advice. I did listen to other music that they liked and I tryed to mix their cd close to what they asked for. They actually we're really happy with what I gave them @ the end. Since i dont now this genre much I would like different ideas on what your ears think I should do next time to make my recordings better on anything drums, bass, guitars, ect....

That's the bottom line isn't it? If the client was happy then you nailed it. To my ears it sounds like the overall EQ is a little off, but that could just be what Myspace does to it. They're not known for sound quality. Was the CD mastered? If so, what did the mastering engineer think? When I first set up my current mixing room the first CD that I mixed there (that was mastered) needed some EQ tweaking. The mastering engineer said everything sounded pretty good but all the songs needed a slight boost at 250 Hz. Upon subsequent testing of my room, sure enough there was a 4-6 db peak at 247 Hz. He spotted it and his feedback was helpful in me fixing the problem. The next time a CD of yours goes to a mastering engineer, ask him for feedback. You may gain some important insight.

Thank you Phil as a novice in this beautiful art of recording that's the kind of advice I need , EQ @#$@# it drives me crazy I've invested so much into all my equipment, room treatment, ect, but for some reason EQ doesn't get along that good with me. I should have mentioned that when I posted this post originally. Anyways I thank you for taking your time answering my questions.

What are some good songs that a rock band can play? So, me and my friends are starting a band. We have a male singer, a guitar, a bass, and drums. We need some good songs to learn. Any suggestions?

Free Bird!

There. I finally got to shout it out instead of it getting shouted at me. And I'm not even drunk.

Well, I must say that I'm one of the lucky individuals who has never had to play Free Bird. (Knock on wood!!!!!!!)
We even had drunks screaming Free Bird at us when I was playing in a Bluegrass band.

How do i set up my rock band 2 cymbals for wii? I just purchased Rock Band 2 cymbals for Wii. The set came with two cymbals, which were GREEN and YELLOW. I can't seem to be able to use the cymbals during my songs though. The colored cymbals are connected into the correct cable jack, but when i hit the cymbals during songs, it doesn't work. Can anyone please explain the steps (even if it is the most obvious step) to set up the cymbals for my Rock Band 2 drums?

Don't cut the yellow wire. It's never the yellow wire.
