questions for first recording with Ultralite Mk3

Post by mdporter »

Greetings,

After a long hiatus from audio recording I took a job recording a choir concert. I did alot of recording to DAT in the mid 90's, used some protools, but have largely not done anything in the last ten years. To help me out I've picked up an Ultralite mk3 so I could go directly to disk.

While I'm learning the unit I have a few quick questions:

- Can I record at 24/96 to disk but have the Ultralite send a 16/44.1 signal to my backup dat machine over the digital output?

- Can the included Audiodesk software take my 24/96 recording and dither it down to 16/44.1 for output to CD in post? So far in looking that option doesn't seem obvious in the software. If it can't do this then I'll just set everything up for 16/44.1.

No. Best way is to send the input back out two analog outs and do A/D conversion again for the DAT, if that's what you need.

Yes, you can do this on bounce, if would like. Make sure "Dither" is checked in the Audio menu.

BTW, if Audiodesk is working for you, consider moving up to DP. There are some terrific included tools, including the MasterWorks EQ, Compressor, and Limiter, that can really help your recordings.
