assigining different devices for inputs and outputs
i'm using a macbook to record rough guitar ideas. i have a lightsnake that i want to use for input and i want to use my built in output on my laptop for monitoring. i will be using DP7's guitar plug ins.
how do i configure that i want input from the lightsnake, and output from the built in audio?

Hmm, maybe someone else has the answer, but I'm not sure you can do that.
You can mix several (or at least two) different firewire devices, but I don't think you can simultaneously use an external device and built-in audio.

under setup/configure audio system/configure hardware driver/ you can shift click to add additional devices including built in audio.

Re: assigining different devices for inputs and outputs
under the configure hardware driver...what should i have selected as far as master device?
i can get it to work in garageband, so i know the lightsnake isn't broken...i just configure the input to the lightsnake, and enable monitoring and voila...i have signal.
but i really want to use the DP amp simulator. the simulator in garageband don't sound so great.

Re: assigining different devices for inputs and outputs
try either one, but "built in" should probably not be the master.

Wow, I never knew you could mix internal/external like that!
That could come in handy for a number of purposes, including resource use when overdubbing VI's.

Re: assigining different devices for inputs and outputs
if i set the master deivce to the lightsnake, i can get a signal going in, i just can't monitor what i'm hearing....

Re: assigining different devices for inputs and outputs
if you are monitoring from Apple's "built in audio",
create a stereo Aux track,
assign everything to that stereo Aux,
then assign "built in Audio" to one of the Aux send knobs on that Aux track.
try that

Re: assigining different devices for inputs and outputs
i solved my issue.
i highlighted both the "built in audio" and "lightsnake" under configure hardware driver. by doing that, each track in the sequence gives me the option of selecting either the built in audio, or lightsnake.
i just set the audio tracks accordingly, and i'm making music with DP7's cool guitar plugs!

That's what I recommended earlier...

Shift clicking to add something to what is already highlighted.
