I'm using Mach5 2 as an RTAS plugin to Protools. Been doing that for a number of years, ever since Sample Cell went away. Lately, though, I'm getting occasional little clicks and pops that happen in playback of simple MIDI sequences. They seem randomly placed. They are quite frustrating when trying to track musical lines, because I have to listen carefully for them and then re-record when they occur. Anybody got suggestions?

Still struggling with this problem. I had thought it was possibly due to my UAD-1 card. I've now removed that card and the plug-ins, and the problem continues. Not sure what to do now. I guess I'll wake up early Monday morning and call tech support at MOTU. Might have to abandon Mach 5, which is a shame.

Well just in case anyone else is having this problem, I'll go ahead and answer myself. I called MOTU phone support (you have to get up early not to get a busy signal, especially calling from California). The guy was nice and helpful. The thing that worked was to raise the Hardware Buffer in ProTools from 512 to 1024. No more clicks and pops in that track. The problem with that is that it increases latency, so I will be just raising it to track audio from Mach5. Then I'll lower it back down for other things like recording voices or MIDI or mixing. He also acknowledged that Mach 5 does not work in ProTools 7.4 and higher, so I guess I'll be moving on to Kontakt and/or Structure. I use Kontakt a lot at work and I'm beginning to like it.

Re: Digital Clicks and Pops
Been laying low so I missed your post. Yes, buffer size is often to blame. Clocking can also be an issue, but most often I find the buffer is the problem. And yes, the latency in recording is a major PITA at the higher levels. Hopefully this can be addressed someday. M5v2 also doesn't play well with Plogue Bidule on my system and I have to run M5 in DP as a VI. Everything else is handled by Plogue.
