Unexpted end of file error -39

Post by jquesta »

Good afternoon everyone,

I just received this error and cannot find my backup. Is there any way of recovering from this error? I have no idea how it happened as the file appeared to save correctly.

Help please...

Also it helps us if you post your system specs.

I did a search for error code -39 and came up with a lot of posts that had nothing to do with my error - I guess I used the wrong syntax. Sorry about that. :(

Apparently my file is hosed - showing only 4K in the file, so something must have happened during the save (at least according to other help data I found on the net). Lucky for me it was only a few patches and not a bunch of difficult to put together audio files. I'm saving copies in 2 locations now. What a bummer...

I did a quick search myself and agree that it was hard to find anything useful.

I'm sorry to hear about your file problem, but I'm glad it was something that you could piece back together without too much trouble.

Sometimes DP files can get corrupt, but it doesn't happen very often. But since it DOES happen what I do is to always duplicate the file I am working on for the day (or for a session) rename it with a date and consider it a backup copy. That way if anything goes wrong on a save, or if for whatever reason (and there are numerous reasons) the file won't open the next time I try to open it, then at least I have a recent backup copy that should open.

Another thing that I would strongly urge you to do is to set up Time Machine. If you have Time Machine backing up your DP projects regularly, you can breathe a little more easily.

Hey Sorry to hear about your -39 error. i too recently got this error after upgrading to DP7.0. unfortunately i could not find a way to fix or retrieve the file. i backup after every session which meant, at worst, i would only lose 1 sessions worth of work. since that can be considerable i've since started to "save as" at least once per hour per session. calling each new save as "project title A,project title B etc." and eliminating all but the last two saved as when i finish the session.
I wish i had a more definitive solution for you and myself but have moved on.

good luck to you.

Whatever your troubles, they sure beat having an unexpected "end of life" error. :)

Also since your using 7.01 it pays to use BWAV as the file format and not SD2 as there have been some problems with it over the years.

Glad to hear you got it sorted.
