Agere Lucent Firewire Chip High Latency and Large Buffer Req

Post by cragto »

My computer is a Dell Precision 470 with Dual Xeon 3ghz processors 4gig ram XP 64 bit, has Agere firewire (400) chip, and I'm using Ultralite Mk3 with Sonar Producer 8 and the ASIO driver (1394 IIRC). If I try to use buffer samples of less than 1024 I get clicks or skips in all projects (audio or audio and MIDI) and stuck notes in MIDI projects. Reported latency in is 24.6 ms. This is a much higher buffer size and latency than I read other Sonar and Motu users experience, as many report as low as 64 or 128 sample buffers and latency of 5 or 6 ms. What can I change to be able to have working projects with much lower buffer and latency?
