Bootcamp Firewire doesn't work on XP SP3!

Post by raduradule »

Hi, I'm looking for a working firewire 800 driver compatible between:

a NEW (few weeks)15"MacBookPro with Bootcamp V3.0 and XP SP3 installed + the bootcamp drivers which comes on the MAC DVD.

Looks like Apple couldn't provide the compatible drivers between their hardware and Microsoft Software! - inappropriate bootcamp XP drivers! XP SP2 and SP3 firewire drivers won't work! the MAC DVD suppose to have them if Apple provide compatible solution between them and Microsoft. But they don't,... in this particular case!

Motu Traveler is my external audio interface firewire 400 compatible. I've installed all the Motu drivers. Same audio interface will work in OSX 10.6.1 but in V3.0 bootcamp / XP SP3 ...NO WAY! ...Audio drops frames big time.

I've been trying all those kinder garden tricks,... disabling different thing, registry editing, unibrain & other drivers, Microsoft hotfix's ...but still NO WAY to make it work! There is a driver missing!!

Calling Microsoft and Apple they totally disappointed me, giving me NO solution,... passing the problem between them!

MICROSOFT clearly says" 1394b (FireWire 800) device reverts from S400 speed to S100 in XP SP2/SP3 / Firewire 800, excluding by some reasons SP1, but SP1 doesn't work with bootcamp!"... AND APPLE BOUGHT THAT AND SALE IT TO US so they can get more windows users on Apple hardware!?? GREAT but make it work! DAM IT!!

Anybody out there with a (driver) solution ?? Please exclude the below links which unfortunately doesn't work:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955408
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222

This is a serious problem a lot of people deal with.

APPLE should be RESPONSIBLE for this technical issue and provide the driver (they have to push Microsoft)! I bought their hardware so they should provide me the driver as long as they claim it's Windows XP compatible!!

The firewire speed drop back was a problem with the initial release of sp2 for XP. There was a hotfix that remedied that problem and that hotfix was rolled into sp3 of XP.

If you're using a Mac with the 9 pin FW800 port keep in mind that you'll need an adapter cable to go from that port to any FW400 port. Sometimes these cables can be problematic and you may need a new cable. Try Provantage - they have an online presence and are a reputable outfit to deal with. Not an employee of theirs, just a long-time happy customer.
