motu 828mkII not showing up in DP, Logic or Garageband

Post by guyz »

Just upgraded my computer to a Quad Core with Intel with Snow Leopard. I'm running DP7, and Logic.

All installs went well with pluggins although when I go to se the hardware setup, ... my motu piece is not recognized. I've downloaded and installed all relevant drivers and updates according to motu's recommendations but none of my DAW's are recognizing it.

Anyone have any thoughts, help or hope for this problem?

In my system preferences folder I see several FILES that have to do with motu. com.motu.CueMixFX.plist, .. com.motu.DigitalPerformer.plist, ... com.motu.firewire.SMPTE.COMSOLE.plist and there's also a FOLDER called com.motu/FireWireAudio. within that folder I see two files, ... 1. 0000011f3c.plist and 2. FireWireAudio.plist

I noticed that within my applications folder when I click on MOTU PCI CueMix Console, MOTU PCI SMPTE Setup or MOTU SMPTE Setup, .. I get a message saying 'NO MOTU card found'.

Inquiring minds still want to know guyz... Does the interface show up within your system?

The PCI drivers have nothing to do with your Firewire 828.

again, forgetting DP and/or Logic for the moment, after you've booted your new Mac (and before you've opened *any* applications, incl. DP and/or Logic) , your 828 MkII should be showing up in System Preferences/Sound as an option you can select for Output and/or Input.
Also, it (the 828) should be showing up in Applications/Utilities/AudioMidi as an option that you can select for Output and/or Input.
If it is *NOT* showing up in both of these places;
1. you've got a Snow Leopard problem and will need to phone Apple
AND/OR
2. you've got a MOTU driver issue and will need to phone MOTU

just to double check, you should have installed MOTU Audio driver 1.4.23 from here:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/motu/downloads/ ... 1.4.23.zip

Somewhere in either your Library or your User Library, there will be a folder/file that will contain the driver with the above version number (1.4.23). I don't (yet) have a MOTU interface so I can't tell you exactly where it will be, but others might?

good luck with it

I had this problem, try unistalling the drivers and reinstalling them (make sure to repair permissions etc) if this doesn't fix the problem, there maybe a firmware update that you need to update.

This might seem odd, but I had a similar problem with a friend's Traveler not being seen by DP7 or anything else. I tried the things that the folks in this post suggested, to no avail. I thought to try a hard (Factory) reset of the Traveler as this (828mkII) technote describes -

http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technot ... term=reset

Surprisingly, it fixed the problem... the Traveler showed up as a configurable audio output and works perfectly now.

Perhaps this will fix your problem, too. Best of luck...

I have the 828II and have recently been setting up a new macbook pro. The driver should wind up in mac/ applications as MOTU Audio Setup v1.4.12. RobA's idea of the factory default reset is a good one. That has fixed things when I couldn't figure it out before. May the force be with you.

I forgot to add try another FW lead and different FW ports on both the Mac and interface.
