Need to find an AU host to run alongside DP

Post by labman »

This can be just a little mac application, with its own buffer setting, needed only to run one AudioUnit plug-in. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Bidule should fill the bill: http://www.plogue.com/?page_id=56.

Independent buffer sizes? I really think so, but I don't have my copy installed now, so I couldn't swear to it.

Thanks Bill. Can anyone else confirm the adjustable buffer in Bidule?

Yes, but they recommend it be set the same as the DAW. I don't know for what reason though... probably for sync when running audio files in Bidule.

Apple has and audio unit host that is included in the Developer Tools Applications/Audio section of Xcode called AU Lab. A copy of the Xcode is included on your OSX install disk or the most current version is available for download here http://developer.apple.com/technology/xcode.html. The latest release is Intel only and unfortunately they don't make previous versions of Xcode available for download for the PPC folks. Regardless, you should have AU Lab version 2.01 (UB) or better (2.10 Intel only). Earlier versions are a little quirky and don't support VIs. If you download the latest Intel Xcode package or install it from your OSX disk, you can use Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to install just AU Lab and it's documentation with out installing all the other stuff. It's actually a pretty deep little program if you take the time to learn it.
