I plugged my 8 pre into a Mackie cr1604 via 1/4inch all 8 channels?
I'm hoping I could route it someway to headphones and a more "analog" mixer feel.

Mackie 1604? That would just make it sound worse.
No point in trying to mix outside of the computer unless
you are using a very very high-end analog hardware
mixer or summing box. There's a reason people run things
back out into Neves or Harrisons or a Dangerous Buss Mixer,
and not through cheap "prosumer" off-the-shelf mixers.
Stick with mixing in the box. It will make you a better
mixing engineer.

Re: What would happen if....
Understandable.
I figure the cr1604 although older, would still hold up to the Mackie name in sound quality. Basically, it would just be easier to eq with the analog board then having to go back after the signal lines were recorded.
I'm more so questioning the proper way to channel everything.
I'm just going to try it and see what happens.
Any suggestions?
