Get it while you still can, as this is the best kick drum mic ever (and I've literally tried them all, except the Sennheiser e901 boundary mic):

I've been using the E/V ND868 as my main kick drum mic for several years now, and it works well in every genre. Good solid sound with characteristics similar to E/V RE20, except cleaner and with higher transient response.
I'm a strong believer in dedicated kick drum mics, due to how the diaphragm stretches and ultimately changes the mic over time. I own the RE27 revision of the RE20 and it is very similar on the kick, but I'd rather leave it for vocals, voice-overs, and the like.
I haven't checked other websites yet to see if this sale is across the industry and whether the mic is actually being discontinued. Both E/V and Audio technica tend to discontinue incredible mics, so as to not get into a locked image like Shure and AKG. it's a shame in many ways (I need three more ATM25's).

I immediately thought "no way, I just bought that mic!". And then read the rest. I bought it there on sale. Nevermind. The 478 is on sale too. Got both of them based solely on word of mouth. I'm glad your chiming in. I've yet to find a kick mic I love, so I deep trying.
