Audio MIDI setup does not contain my synthesizer

Hello,

Hope this isn't a painfully obvious question I am just missing, but here goes:

In the Audio MIDI setup, I add a new external device. I am wanting to setup a Kurzweil K2661. When I scan through the list of devices, Kurzweil is not a choice.

How can I add Kurzweil (or any other not on the list) and the appropriate brands so that it will auto-configure my device to pull up patches by name, etc.?

AudioMIDI Setup looks for files with the .middev extension that are anywhere in your /Library/Audio directory - and inside these files are lists of synth models along with some basic information about the synth.

MOTU puts a bunch of these files inside /Library/Audio/MIDI Devices/MOTU - they organize them by manufacturer, and each manufacturer will have a .middev file listing whatever model synths MOTU knew about when they released DP.

You can open .middevs with a text editor that is set to read/write basic ASCII or UTF8 encodings. Open the Kurzweil, scroll down until you find the K2600, then duplicate that entry - and just change its name to K2661.

After you save the file with your change, start up AudioMIDI Setup - you should see your model in the popup list.

BUT!!! The patch names will be in a separate file with the model name, and a .midnam extension. That probably isn't there either - but you can try Googling for it, or use a program like Cherrypicker to create your own.

You can also just try going to Kurzweil's Web site and see if a CoreMIDI driver is available specifically for your keyboard. That will not only give you a driver and a patchlist, but possibly even a custom device icon.
