On more DON'T LIKE: The FX plugin-popup menu is really long now, with all those new guitar plugins all listed. A folder hierarchy is badly needed (hello: Logic scores again).

I made my own plug-in folder hierarchy by creating folders in the MAS folder plug-ins folder.
MAC HD>Library>Audio>Plug-ins>MAS
only takes a few minutes and works a treat. Try it. It makes life much easier...
it did make me wonder why MOTU didn't do it for us but hey, at least we've got the option of DIY.

Nice! Great tip.
I noticed a bunch of old plugs in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components that are no longer recognized by DP (like the cool Fish Fillets plugs…oh, well). Can you think of an easy way to identify which of these are no longer recoginized by DP?

On first try I really liked some of them, was not so excited about others:
Love having so many additional distortion plugs. Also like the chorus. The amp and room simulator didn't floor me so much (but I have to admit that a) I'm spoiled with the hideously expensive Softube plugs, and b) I'm also quite underwhelmed with many of the 'main' contenders (Waves, NI, Amplitube). Softube are the first amp sims where I have the feeling I can forgo the amp without compromising.)
The simple, easy to use distortion plugs alone are a great addition - I use some form of distortion on probably 50% of my tracks, so having choices is vital and they all sounded really good on first test. And they are much quicker to set than the plugs I usually use (Ohmicide, Kombinat, Preamp, etc.)
The amp and pedals don't sound so great, but I experimented with Liveroom G.
I recorded the line-out of a few of my amps directly into an audio track, (which sounds horrible) and then sent the tracks to live room to emulate the cab.
Before I go on, I'm going to say of course that recording a real cab in a good room will sound better. But Many people don't have that option, and Liveroom does a REALLY good job. If you have a small tube combo, even a tube pre, give it a go. (through the headphone output if necessary!) I'll bet it sounds better than recording most small speakers!

I just tried the guitar tone clippings--that's a step in the right direction. At least it's a place to start. But I had to overcome a hurdle. At first the clippings simply refused to work. I couldn't drag them onto anything. Finally I figured out that I had to increase the number of inserts showing (I had only 2). Then they worked.

I couldn't drag those suckers from a project clipping window to save my life. Mono track, stereo track, 6 inserts, I couldn't make it stick. Finally I opened them up on the browser and dragged them from there. Viola!

Sorry to create a new thread, but mine is kinda long, and also compares the DP7 stuff to GuitarRig 3, so I thought on balance that it made sense to start a new thread...
ok i just played with all these new guitar plugs in 7.
now - just so you can take this all with a grain of salt, we almost never use guitar modeling here for anything... never use VIs... etc. etc. it's all real guitars/amps/synths/keys/etc.
i can say it took me about 6 times as long in DP's guitar plugs to get a workable guitar sound than it would in "real life". (i.e. pick an amp .. mic it... plug the guitar/pedals in ... record). but that's just how i'm used to working... you guys most likely are better at this than i am. i wouldn't personally use this for anything guitar related... if you have the real amps and the luxury of lighting them up... do that. don't fiddle with these plugs. for guitars that is... now processing vocals, drums, whatever else... that's another story. lots of fun to be had there i'm sure.
If I were to use those plugs to produce a sound in DP, I might be obligated to reproduce that sound in a live context. But I don't use DP live. I use another host. The plugs won't work in another host. So I'm not even going to mess with them. I don't use host-specific plugs as a matter of policy.
As the owner of Amplitube everything and GR3, I don't really need another guitar sim (unless someone wants to release the MESA Boogie collection - them I'm all over that).

Marshall!!!
(Oops... sorry... that's just a reflex!)
Duuude, I have put my little simul-class Mark III 1x12 combo running in class A mode only on the same stage as people with dual cab marshall stacks and I have no trouble keeping up. God help them if I kicked in the second stage.
BTW, I have just about finished setting up my studio in Encinitas. I am willing to meet you and prove it. (cue good bad ugly riff)...
