Best GM virtual sound module?

Post by dado »

I'd always used Bandstand, but since I've upgraded to SL it crash a lot of time on my iMac with DP 6.0.2. There is a good replace for Bandstand?

Unfortunately it's hard to judge what would be a good replacement since so few of us have Bandstand. Do you know off-hand how closely it corresponds to what is in the core Kontakt library?

I use Quantum Leap Goliath on the rare occasions that I need something from the GM sound set. And there are occasions where a particular sound went out of fashion and is hard to find outside of a GM context. One such sound is Orchestral Hit, which is cheesy, but the one in Quantum Leap Goliath is amazing and has saved my hide on a few projects.

Goliath is a bit pricey though. Even so, it also contains some excellent instruments from Hardcore Bass, some guitar library (I forget what it was called when it was a separately available product), and Quantum Leap Brass (or whatever it was called -- this is the jazz-and-pop context brass, not the brass from the Symphony product).

Other than that, I'm not sure what would be of good enough quality. Maybe VI.ONE has a GM set as part of its basic library. There don't seem to be any GM-only libraries other than Bandstand, just more comprehensive libraries that include a GM set of 128 patches, so it may be hard to find a cheap option.
