Can't I switch all takes with one command?

Post by odysseysounds »

I'd like to change all Tracks from Take 2 to Take 1. I'm sure there is a command for this....

Thx,

Blake

Select the tracks you want to switch takes as a group.

From the Project menu, select Modify Track Groups>New Track Group.

Choose Custom from the popup menu.

Check Add or Delete Take, as well as Switch Take.

Ok?

When I need to do it quickly I just double tap " w " to temporarily group everything. Then I do whatever I have to do. Make sure your temorary grouping settings are setup properly though.

There are a few neat tricks with double tapping "w" "u" & "g" Looke for them in the Tip Sheet or in your manual.

Don't forget, T, for temporarily grouping selected tracks.

OK, it's early, but not this early!

I needed to change all takes and followed Magicd's directions. It works, and I selected ONLY new takes from the custom menu. Selected NEW TAKE from the tracks window and they all changed. Recorded the new takes. Great! Go to switch to one of the 53 chunks I created and only one seemed to exist: the take I had just done. Uh oh!

UNDO history brought the project back to it's senses but what am I missing here. The manual (pg 770 onward) doesn't seem to shed much light on it and my use if track groups seems to be shedding of fair amount of heat in my project.

Also, double tapping doesn't seem to have an effect on anything, but I have not looked that up just yet. I'm more concerned with the grouping issue at the moment and why I lost (more like groped) my earlier tracks in other sequences/chunks. There were no other takes listed either. All the earlier sequences showed "1" in the take column while the altered sequence (the first in the chunk list, btw) showed the two takes.

Help me Obiwon Macigd, you're my only hope...

OK, not hopeless. My project is just fine - I really want to know what I did wrong for future reference.

Thanks guys...

I've known about W, G, and T for a while, but what does double tapping U do? Any other double taps we should know about?

Phil

Sorry for getting OT, but this isn't easy to find in the manual.

To the OP, if you haven't yet used customized groups in DP, you don't know what you're missing. This is a great feature of DP that I use all the time. It's a big time saver! It is THE way the go, IMHO, when you need to switch takes on multiple tracks - particularly useful when tracking drums.

I still don't know why I lost all my other takes when I invoked the track groups. I've :rtfmmad: to no avail...

There are keyboard shortcuts for "Next Take" and "Previous Take". They work on record-enabled tracks or currently selected tracks. I have them set up with my Contour Shuttle Pro (which is da bomb). I should buy a backup!
