all due respect but this seems like unnecessary sarcasm... Besides, sometimes features are hard to find (see index/pdf posts)

In Studio Vision I could record MIDI clicks and then edit them until they were perfectly in time, then generate tempo from them...(I often need to create tempos from audio tracks (and not ones with an obvious beat)
On the Region menu there is a function called "Extract tempo from MIDI" although I have never used it.

Thanks...I am afraid this feature is completely unusable (as well as not documented) It definitely doesn't achieve the needed result...give it a try and see if you can decode it.

It was actually during the search for this feature that I encountered the poor manual index mentioned above.

Here's what cracks me up though about all these great, "new" ideas - wouldn't it just be great to have a DAW that's current features WORK? I mean really - we've got this wish list and yet so much of what is currently "available" doesn't even work.
Well... I think it works ok but isn't as user friendly as it could be. I agree on your basic premiss though.

I agree streamlining the software to apply flags instead of crashes and having notices with suggestions to buffer settings like the disk drive speed flag that appears on slow disk drives would be nice. MOTU would see less hassle from users that way.

Nope, not sarcasm at all. Dead serious. But only some of them. There were at least three or four requested features that are part of DP already. The manual is the best in the business. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Think your right sooshie.

I remember only a few months ago after 4.52 came out someone posted a real long thread we all got in on.

This one repeats some of the ideas listed there although not the 100mm fader point I made, hehe.

But, repetition is good when no one ever answers from above.

PS: sorry not to elaborate and lay it out for you in great detail, but I'm genuinely busy. Here are some of my comments:

One of the suggestions had to do with a master controller for MIDI tracks. They can be grouped and run with a master controller, if not in the Mixing window, then from Custom Consoles. Endless possibilities there. Be sure to save your Custom Consoles with your templates, and they'll be there when you start a new file. Or, you can just group the tracks in the Mixing Board, and run them from one master among them.

Find Beats does indeed work for tempo map, and further, you can move the barlines to get them precisely where you want them, even using snapping to align them perfectly with beats. Pokeye mentioned that one, I think. Just keep working at it, Pokeye; you'll figure it out. Don't tell me it doesn't work. I'm a pro, and it's essential to what I do.

The Marker renaming thing leaves me wondering... you don't want to rename them when you're recording them as hits, and they are easy enough to rename as you are entering them in the Marker window. An extra pop-up would be in the way, if you ask me. And isn't it possible to drag markers in the Sequence Editor? Darn, I forget, but it seems like there's a key-drag combination.

Publish to Finale or Sibelius: what doesn't publish? Don't they open Standard MIDI? I do wish we had more options with notation. I used to use Mosaic, and feel abandoned now.

Gary's 100mm fader is a good idea. Maybe there's a future in that one; the faders have been pretty mediocre, overall, and I think most of us draw in our automation. A very accurate fader which has a switchable option to make fader control the dominant resource during mixing would be nice--something to give us a smooth, precise edit control even at the sacrifice of some playback features for the moment. That's worth forwarding to MOTU.

Well, I'll just reiterate the need for folders in the Tracks window (or any other interface trick that allows me to consolidate and hide MIDI and audio tracks once I'm done mucking with them).

When I'm in the thick of production, be it composition or mixdown, I hate getting brain-bogged by screen clutter. If I have track locked, I want to hide it from distractive sight.
